When a bison corpse is discovered through wolves and grizzly bears, the festival can be fierce among primary predators.
An adult grizzly bear alone has no challenge in avenging a corpse and dispersing the wolves. But it’s more harmful when grizzly bears have puppies.
The accompanying images, recently captured through an excursion consultant to Yellowstone National Park, show a grizzly mother and two cubs fleeing wolves after the bears attempted to meddling in the corpse.
Taylor Bland, a consultant at Yellowstone Wolf Tracker, told For The Win Outdoors that his photographs began when at least 4 members of Junction Butte’s wolf pack began hunting bears.

“A giant 2,000-pound bison was killed through another bison during the routine, and it was day 2 of the corpse,” Bland said of the in early August. “The wolves were trying to prevent the bears from feeding on them.”
He called the wolves’ behavior a “protection of resources” and said it appeared that they intended to kill the puppies.
However, Bland said: “Wolves will kill grizzly bears because the little ones will grow up to be in the competition. The same goes for bears and wolves.”
Spectators would possibly notice that mother grizzly tried to stay among her cubs and wolves during the brief chase and, despite everything, stopped to face the wolves.
Her puppies, like Mom, were in what looked like a defensive posture.
Eventually, the wolves surrendered and ventured to the corpse.
Bland added that after the wolves with buffalo meat, mother grizzly and the two cubs returned and reveled in the corpse for more than two hours.
“Most of the wolves lay down about a hundred yards from the corpse,” Bland said. “Two one-year-olds stayed, but the bear chased them several times and they weren’t up to it.
The routine of the bison, or mating season, extends from mid-July to August. During this period, rival men die through more dominant bison. The channel supplies food to other species.
Bland said that of his group, “one of the epic interactions between wolves and bears that I’ve seen,” happened in the Lamar Valley.
His photographs were captured from a quarter of a mile away and suppressed the sound, he said, as his group’s excited talk “has moved away from the occasions that were happening.”
