Three major league games were postponed Wednesday night in reaction to the shooting of Jacob Blake. The Los Angeles Dodgers contest opposed one of the San Francisco Giants.
And all with Mookie Betts.
The Dodgers outfielder made it clear before Wednesday’s game that he would not participate in the protest. And once the players found out Betts wasn’t playing, the wheels turned.
“More than anything as Mookie’s teammate, as a member of this team… as a white player on this team, how can we show our support?” Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw said Janie McCauley of The Associated Press. “What can we do tangible to help our black brothers in this team?”
Dodgers head coach Dave Roberts is already making plans not to play Wednesday’s game before Kershaw’s resolution through Betts. Roberts even moved in to talk about the team’s resolve to boycott Wednesday’s game.
“My cousin was shot dead. My father was one of the first black men in his high school. It was about uniting everyone and sharing our thoughts,” he said through McCauley. «… Collectively, we nevertheless come to a consensus that we deserve not to play today.”
Major League Baseball aired on a Wednesday night supporting the team’s resolution of postponing the games and their message.
