Mucem celebrates the arrival of the Olympic flame in Marseille

Marseille is preparing to host a historic event: the arrival of the Olympic flame in France on Wednesday, May 8. In the coming days, numerous buildings of the Focea will be dressed in the Olympic colours, such as the façade of the City Hall, the Department and the St Charles exercise station.

The Mucem, the city’s emblematic museum, is not far behind. On May 7, you will unveil on its façade an excerpt from Homer’s Iliad: “From our hands will come light” (in French and Greek).

The Mucem is proud to be the first French ship to cross paths with the Belem, sporting the Olympic flame, a symbol of peace and hope, as it enters the ancient port of the Phocaean city. ” A crossroads of cultures and ideas, the Mucem is a position of encounter and discussion between peoples, reflecting the spirit of diversity and inclusion advocated through the Olympic Games. The inscription of this verse on the façade of the museum is a colorful tribute to the richness of Mediterranean culture and its influence on the world. It is also an opportunity to greet the torchbearers who will smooth the way to Paris,” the establishment states.

The MUCEM had already engraved on the same façade a word similar to International Women’s Day: “The voice of is Revolution” through the artist Ghada Amer (in French and Arabic).
