Navarro ISD suspended its football program until August 24 after reporting five new cases of new coronavirus, Superintendent Wendi Russell announced Friday on the school district’s website.
So far, the Guadalupe County District, located near Seguin, about forty-five miles northeast of San Antonio, has announced 18 cases in total coVID-19: 10 staff members and 8 students. Anyone close to other inflamed people has been notified, Russell said in the online statement.
The district will open its in-person and virtual learning schools on Wednesday. Extracurricular activities, however, began with the UIL which allowed practices for all sports in schools in subclass 5A to begin on August 3. Navarro participates in Class 4A, Division II.
It is not known whether all students or positive staff participated in extracurricular activities. Last week, however, the district announced that its first two instances of COVID-19 scholars were participating in extracurricular activities. According to Russell, the district demands temperature controls and face mask in its schools. He also said the district disinfected surfaces on a basis.
“I assure parents and network members that we are doing everything we can to keep our schools and extracurricular spaces sanitized and germ-free,” Russell wrote.
