In fact, for the fourth week in a row, no player took COVID-19 tests. According to the league publication:
Of the 342 COVID-19-educated players on the NBA campus since the last effects announcement on August 5, none have returned with positive results.
Even though the games have started and some players are leaving the bubble site to deal with various issues related to the circle, none of this has had an effect on the safety of the league’s plan so far. Before the games began on July 30, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver told the New York Times that he was “cautiously optimistic” about the NBA’s existing bubble protection and ability to end the season. Silver was careful to get a winning circular because the players didn’t start the full games at this point. However, as the league finishes the league’s qualifying games and prepares for the playoffs, it turns out that there is no problem.
The next challenge will be when the NBA allows players to invite their circle of relatives and visitors into the bubble, starting August 30. The NBA’s detailed plan to complete the remainder of the 2019-2020 season has worked so far, and while there’s still a long way to go to crown a champion in October, the league is in a much larger position than MLB is facing lately, and what the NFL will want to perceive in the near future.
