The Miami Heat would sue the Milwaukee Bucks ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo if the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player enters the loose firm next summer, however, the maximum five-year extension of middle All-Star Bam Adebayo would force the Heat to be more artistic in achieving that purpose due to considerations of the salary cap.
However, Anthony Chiang and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported Tuesday that the Heat has gained goodwill with the two-time MVP:
“A familiar with Antetokounmpo said he would be more inspired by the Heat by giving the extension to Adebayo now than asking Adebayo to wait a year to facilitate the Heat’s acquisition of Antetokounmpo. Adebayo and Antekounmpo are friends and the same agent, Alex Saratsis. “
The Heat is rumoured to be making “carpet” by hiring Antetokounmpo in the summer of 2021, to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic.
Chiang and Jackson said Antetokounmpo remains “the main target of heat in 2021, a flexible agency. “
As the Miami Herald duo noted, Antetokounmpo has until December 21 to signal a supermax extension with the Bucks; if you don’t, you’ll enter a loose signature next summer.
Chaing and Jackson how the Adebayo extension complicates this lawsuit:
“Adebayo’s cap for 2021-22 would be $15. 3 million if Miami waited until the next off season to give it a new contract. Its 2021-22 cap is expected to be at least $28. 1 million to its maximum extent.
“This difference of about $13 million is huge because it practically causes Miami to tell Antetokounmpo, or some other loose agent like Victor Oladipo, to use a space on the roof. “
Therefore, a firm and a redemption would be advances for Miami.
On Adebayo’s side, he told Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that he was lately unaware of Antetokounmpo’s long-term intentions at this time.
The 2020-21 NBA season is scheduled to begin on December 22.
