ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. (AP) – New Mexico men’s and women’s basketball groups are moving to Texas due to coronavirus restrictions in their home state.
Sports director Eddie Nunez said this week that the men’s program will be established at South Plains College in Lubbock, move to Amarillo and practice in West Texas A
The basketball season is scheduled to begin next week, however, none of the programs have announced an off-conference schedule. The Mountain West Conference has moved to a schedule of 20 games this season with two-game playoffs between the same teams.
Basketball re-locations occur 3 weeks after the football team moved to Las Vegas rule to play their season. The Wolves played their first game in Las Vegas last weekend.
The New Mexico state men’s basketball program came to Phoenix this week to practice and play, and its women’s program is expected to exercise in Tucson, Arizona, and play in places.
According to New Mexico fitness guidelines, sports departments lately do not allow games or workouts with more than five people. Anyone traveling outside the state will also have to be quarantined for 14 days.
