New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson, coVID-19 tested

Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans, tried COVID-19, announced the Saints on Friday.

Benson, 73, is “progressing well and every day,” team spokesman Greg Bensel said in a statement.

“You haven’t missed a paint call with the Saints and Pelicans staff and haven’t missed a call from the NBA or NFL owner in the past few days; she has not been hospitalized and is recovering at home,” Bensel said. “She thanks you all for your mind and your prayers.”

Benson is the franchise leader at the time he tests positive for COVID-19. Coach Sean Payton, the first known NFL figure to do so in March.

Payton told Jarrett Bell of USA TODAY Sports earlier in August that the three Saints players who first tested positive for COVID-19 would have gained erroneous effects after further testing.

The Saints begin their home season on September 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fans will be able to attend the opening of the game as a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus, the team announced.
