LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Los Angeles Rams’ new defensive version of A’Shawn Robinson will be sidelined indefinitely due to an unrelated injury to football, coach Sean McVay said.
The Rams put Robinson on the list of active/non-football injuries on Saturday, and McVay discussed on Sunday the diagnosis of his new signatory without revealing the nature of Robinson’s condition, which is similar to coronavirus.
McVay admitted Robinson’s status “something that surprised us” when Robinson showed up at education camp. Robinson attends Rams team meetings and does not require surgery or any other medical procedure.
“It’s just a precautionary measure with some things we’ve discovered,” McVay said. “It was anything that happened recently. It’s nothing too worrying. It is fairer (we are) satisfied that I have been able to do it from the beginning.”
McVay hinted that Robinson will miss game time this season. A player would possibly remain on the active list/NFI until the last relay of the list, after which he would be moved to the reserve/NFI list, which would force him to miss at least the first six weeks of the normal season.
“It’s happening so we can move on to meetings, get treatment, be with your teammates, and then we’re moving on to be on the hunt for the future to get it back sometime this season,” McVay said. “When that’s the case, I don’t know exactly.”
Robinson agreed to a two-year, $17 million contract with the Rams in March after leaving the Detroit Lions as an indefinite agent. Robinson will upgrade Michael Brockers as the los Angeles defensive line prevention medium after Brockers left as a loose agent for the Baltimore Ravens.
But Brockers returned to the Rams on April 3 after his contract with Baltimore was terminated, leaving Robinson’s role this season in a turbulence connection.
“I’m very grateful that we’ve recovered (Brockers) in general, but in this case,” McVay said.
Robinson spent his first four seasons in the NFL with Detroit after being a second-round pick in the Alabama draft. His playing time waned after coach Matt Patricia took over two years ago, but he made 40 tackles with 1 1/2 catches last season.
McVay also said the driving force of rookie pass Terrell Lewis was back at the Rams educational complex after starting the season on the COVID-19 reserve list. If the Alabama supporter remains asymptomatic for 3 days, you can sign up for your teammates in practice.
