PARIS (AP) – Neymar among the five players sent off on Sunday when Marseille beat their fierce rival Paris Saint-Germain for the first time in nine years.
PSG star Neymar received a direct red in Marseille’s 1-0 win after an altercation with middle-centrer Alvaro González. Neymar was ejected after a video replay that looked like he had shot at the back of Gonzalez’s head.
On his way out, Neymar told the government that he had been the victim of racist abuse.
“It’s a big mistake if that’s the case, but I don’t think so,” Marseille coach Andre Villas-Boas said. “What we saw, the visible, what (Angel) Di María spat (to Gonzalez)”.
The Florian Thauvin winger scored in the minute of a tense match with more than a dozen yellow cards that sank into chaos deep in the time off while exchanging punches and kicks.
It is Marseille’s first win over PSG since the home’s 3-0 win in November 2011.
PSG lost 3 consecutive matches 1-0, adding the Champions League final against Bayern Munich on 23 August and out to promotion to Lens last Thursday. PSG lost their first two league games for the first time since the 1984–85 season and coach Thomas Tuchel may be under early pressure.
The attack ended with the defense of PSG Layvin Kurzawa and his Marseille counterpart Jordan Amavi sent off into combat in the 7th minute of extra time at the Parc des Princes.
Leandro Paredes of the PSG and Dario Benedetto of Marseille followed a time after Neymar carried.
“Fighting is a very serious thing. We’ll take care of this internally with our players,” PSG director Leonardo said. “We’ll have to look at everything to take a coherent position, but the scenario is serious. “
Neymar had returned to appearance with the Di Maria end after being among a total of seven PSG players who had coronavirus tests.
Right-back Alessandro Florenzi made his PSG debut after signing a transfer from the Rome season this week and nearly scored within two minutes, for goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, who repelled midfielder Marco Verratti’s shot.
Thauvin spent most of last season offside for a problematic ankle injury, but scored two goals in two games on this crusade after a smart run to the back post to give game creator Dimitri Payet a loose kick.
Mandanda turned Neymar off on time and two minutes later Di Maria had an offside goal.
Benedetto’s effort also declared offside a minute later, Thauvin this time declared offside in preparation after a video replay even though he gave the impression of being at the same point as an advocate. Neymar then came closer moments later.
Neymar and Di María were among the six players who tested positive for COVID-19 after a club approved Ibiza in a while after wasting the Champions League final.
Captain Marquinhos and striker Mauro Icardi also tested positive after Spain and were not in the call-up, nor were star striker Kylian Mbappé, whose positive viral check-up took a position in the foreign service with France last week.
