This match had an average of 2. 97 goals consistent with the match before kick-off and if there was any doubt as to whether it would live up to the expectations, the players temporarily dispelled them. Donyell Malen’s speed and dribbling caused some headaches for the Hoffenheim defence early on, and the Dutchman had the first clear chance of the match when he struggled with Ozan Kabak, before being denied by Oliver Baumann. However, the home goalkeeper could have done nothing on the first goal, with Füllkrug coming on after a defensive error through John Brooks. . Dortmund let Hoffenheim get back into the game a short time later when Mats Hummels conceded a penalty after a lack of concentration on his part, preventing Andrej Kramarić from equalising on the spot. Marco Reus had the final say in the first half, however, taking advantage of the rebound after Baumann was unable to contain a brilliant cross from Malen.
Undeterred, Hoffenheim lurked from the start of the second half and were able to restore parity thanks to Grischa Prömel, whose point-blank header was too close to Gregor Kobel, before Robert Skov hit the crossbar with a powerful free-kick. An even bigger boost midway through the half when Ramy Bensebaini was sent off for a second yellow card, setting the level for a captivating final quarter of an hour. Karim Adeyemi could have ended up biting his nails by entering the box from the left. and Sebastien Haller as a shield to deflect a shot on goal, but Baumann made a very good save with his foot to prevent the goal. That mattered little in the end, as Julian Ryerson sealed the problems for the visitors in stoppage time with a sensational move. 80-meter dash from deep in his own part, jumping to several definner and crushing Baumann.
