Barrios won 51 caps for Colombia and participated in the 2018 World Cup. Before joining Zenit, he played for Boca Juniors and was reportedly on the verge of joining Tottenham for £25 million.
Forest has made signing a defensive midfielder a very sensible priority this summer, with PSV’s Ibrahim Sangaré as the main target. They have also been linked with Leeds’ Tyler Adams and Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi. Barrios would be a less expensive option to compete. with Ryan Yates, Orel Mangala and Danilo.
Forest has Remo Freuler, Cheikou Kouyate and Lewis O’Brien, but all 3 are connected to exits.
Juventus are reportedly targeting Freuler, the Saudi clubs that Kouyaté and O’Brien were looking for through Sheffield United, as well as league clubs.
