Italian champions Juventus have this afternoon confirmed the dismissal of Maurizio Sarri, on the back of the club’s European exit.
The Bianconeri welcomed Lyon to the Allianz Stadium last night, for the 2nd-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Juve entered the clash requiring a victory to advance to the competition’s final-8, after suffering a deserved 1-0 defeat in the tie’s opener back in February.
And, when all was said and done in Turin on Friday, the hosts did emerge victorious.
After Memphis Depay handed Lyon an early lead from the penalty spot, Cristiano Ronaldo levelled things up with a spot-kick of his own, before the Portuguese superstar lashed home a wonderful 2nd from distance on the hour-mark.
Unfortunately for Juventus, however, the result did not prove enough to see the Old Lady clinch a quarter-final berth, with a 2-2 aggregate scoreline having sent underdogs Lyon through on the away goals rule.

And, as outlined above, Juve’s surprise European exit has since proven hugely costly for one man in particular.
The individual in question? Maurizio Sarri.
In an announcement across the club’s official website and social media platforms a short time ago, the Bianconeri confirmed that Sarri has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

Italian tactician Sarri only took up the reins at the Allianz Stadium last summer, following a season in the Premier League with Chelsea.
The 61-year-old managed to clinch a 9th-straight Serie A title, but Juve’s performances have nevertheless long left a lot to be desired, with last night’s Champions League exit having proven the final straw for the Old Lady hierarchy.
In terms of a potential replacement for Sarri, meanwhile, a whole host of tacticians have since been tipped for the Juve post.
As per Sky Italia, former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi and Andrea Pirlo, recently named as the new U23 coach at Juventus, are all under consideration.
