Official: Lazio sign Castrovilli for flexible transfer

Lazio have officially announced the signing of Gaetano Castrovilli, who is joining as a free agent.

The 27-year-old is a product of the Bari youngsters who made their name during his seven years at Fiorentina. He made his breakthrough in the 2019/20 crusade, where he established himself as one of Serie A’s most productive emerging young midfielders. He was also part of Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri team that won Euro 2020, albeit with a limited role.

But, unfortunately for the Italian international, recurring knee injuries have ruined his recent campaigns, preventing him from playing regularly. Fiorentina opted to form a tactical partnership with the local Canosa di Puglia at the end of last season.

However, Lazio decided to bet on Castovilli’s talent, giving him the possibility of resuming his career in the Italian capital. The Biancocelesti announced the measure through a brief published on the club’s official website:

SS Lazio that Gaetano Castrovilli is a new Biancoceleste player.

Although the official email offers details of the contract, previous reports have revealed that the midfielder will sign a one-year contract with the option of two more seasons. His salary will amount to just over 2 million euros. Castrovilli has already met with his new teammates at the club’s preseason training camp in Auronzo di Cadore.
