Following a long and at times painful 16-year wait, Leeds United have this evening finally secured a return to the top-tier of English football.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men welcomed Barnsley to Elland Road last night, for their 44th outing of the long Championship season.
The Whites eventually emerged with a hard-fought 1-0 win, courtesy of Michael Sollbauer’s own goal.
This saw them open up a 5-point gap atop the Championship table, and meant that anything other than a West Brom win at Huddersfield this evening would see Leeds promoted back to the Premier League.
And, when all was said and done at The John Smith’s Stadium, not only did West Brom fail to secure all 3 points, but the Baggies couldn’t even manage a draw.
Arsenal loanee Emile Smith-Rowe proved the hero for Huddersfield (and Leeds), netting a classy winner 4 minutes from time to secure a 2-1 win.

As such, Leeds United are now, for the first time since 2004, officially a Premier League club once again.
The online reaction to the Peacocks’ achievement, meanwhile, has since been equally swift and widespread.
Players, fans, clubs and more have all flooded to social media to congratulate Bielsa’s men, with some of the highlights showcased below:
