The state of Ohio will fly to Florida on Saturday as scheduled for its school football championship game opposite Alabama, Buckeyes sports director Gene Smith told Columbus Dispatch on Friday.
This puts an end to the hypothesis that COVID-19 instances in the Buckeyes can simply force the game to be postponed until January 18.
“We’re leaving tomorrow, ” said Smith in a text message.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day said this week that the COVID-19 outbreak that forced several key players to miss the Buckeyes’ last games remained a challenge to Monday’s game, but he completely waited for his team to play.

The Ohio state flight departs Saturday afternoon.
