The 18-year-old had a crusade last season by helping Manchester United finish third in the Premier League table and score 17 goals in 49 games for Solskjaer’s men.
Greenwood opened his account for the new season with a purpose and a hand in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Luton Town in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday night.
The teenager hopes to retain a normal place in the first team at Old Trafford this season while trying to fight Manchester United for the Premier League title.
Solskjaer was pleased with Greenwood’s functionality on Tuesday night and believes the teen has what it takes to reach number nine at Old Trafford in the upcoming seasons.
In statements to Manchester United’s online page after the match, Solskjaer said: “He had a fantastic season last season. And achieving his purpose was now vital to him. And Marcus [Rashford]. It’s with the strikers, to have that confidence and this sense of goal, to go hungry again.
“So I’m very satisfied with that, you just want to paint to get back in shape and sharpness, like all of us.
“You can also play in the middle. I think when I was a kid, who hasn’t grown up physically yet, it’s great to be facing the front that being number 9, the foete; be the ram if you wish.
“So I think it’ll probably end up being number nine. But he’s so smart with the right and the left, so he can go right and left, or down the middle.
“I also noted the maximum of my goals just outside the post, I wasn’t like in the middle. “
Solskjaer added: “To make it number nine, you have to be informed how to steer the ball.

Greenwood expects to be when Manchester United face Brighton and Hove Albion away from home in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
