Olivier Giroud says he is involved with Timo Werner’s arrival at Chelsea, as he still believes he will have enough time to bet on Stamford Bridge.

French striker Giroud spent much of the first part of last season on the sidelines of Frank Lampard before making his debut at the time as part of the crusader and first-choice striker.

Werner’s signing through RB Leipzig proved to have threatened this new status, but Giroud says the pair are very different players and can simply adapt.

“I haven’t spoken to Lampard [about game time],” Giroud told Telefoot.

“One thing is for sure: the festival [in the team] will take us all to the top. A giant club has other characteristics in every position.

“We need to be in the race by name and I’m here. I finished the season well and showed the coach that he can count on me. “

“Werner has the same profile as me, I hope to have playing time.

Werner himself is ahead of starting his first season in English football.

“The paintings with the manager have been very recent,” he recently told the Blues website.

“He showed and explained to the whole team, not just me, what we can do in the area and how to do it last season.

“He’s been wonderful running with him and he’s discussed his long-term plans and how we should fight with groups like Man City and Liverpool.

“I think Chelsea is a wonderful club and with this team we have, I think we can succeed on a new level. We have some very smart players here and the coach is there to show us the way and improve.

“We’ve been working a lot on tactical things, as well as on our strength and fitness, to make sure we’re in a position for the start of the season. “
