ATHENS, Greece (AP) – Greek football club Olympiakos will fine 3 of its players for attending a hotel defying the national blockade, the team announced Monday.
The club said that Rubén Semedo, Lazar Randelovic and Bruno Felipe would be “sentenced to a fine of the maximum amount” allowed through the Olymiakos and that the cash would be donated to the state fitness service.
The players, the club said, were among 30 other people who attended a personal party at a hotel in central Athens on Sunday night, in violation of a three-week blockade that was introduced on Saturday that imposes strong movement restrictions and prohibits public meetings. .
Police said a 24-year-old woman arrested for organizing the event.
Government spokesman Stelios Petsas said the party is an example of “irresponsible behavior” led by police as the country continues to see an increase in coronavirus cases.
Olympiakos did not promptly disclose the number of fines imposed on players, although he was not sure that the incident was his participation in the match.
He will receive Manchester City in the Champions League on 25 November.
