Omar Marmous has become the other in front of the superstar of Egypt. No Bundesliga player, not even Harry Kane, worried more objectives than the type of Eintracht Frankfurt. Now Manchester City has taken him to the Premier League.
At almost 26 years old, this was an impressive increase. Not later than in 2022, Marmoush was in Stuttgart, on loan through Wolfsburg’s parent club at the time. His fortunes have taken a significant step forward at Frankfurt, a club that has Mavens through play on the market.
Going the sports director of Frankfurt, Markus Krosche, before this season, was as positive as ever the perspective that the club loses its biggest stars. “Selling players is a component of my work. I’m not excited on this topic. This is a business,” he told Sky Sports.
“I review to think about the player. They need titles. They need to play in the Premier League or in the Champions League. This is a general process. There will be a point where the player develops faster than the club and then let it go.
“That’s what I say to all the players. If your progression is faster than our progression as a club, and I get the cash I expect, I’ll let you go. That’s why so many young talents love coming to Frankfurt because we know what we want to do to expand them. “
But, even by Frankfurt’s high standards, the example of Marmoush is extreme. Signed on a free transfer from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023, he has been transformed into one of the best players in the Bundesliga, an all-round forward to rival the best in Europe.
This last year at Wolfsburg has generated five goals in the Bundesliga. He had never reached double figures for a championship crusade until he appeared in Frankfurt. But this account of 12 goals in its first season has already eclipsed halfway through its second. It has 13.
While this is a testomony of Frankfurt’s ability to identify talent, it is not that Marmoush’s rise was completely unexpected. Michael Wimmer is a coach who worked largely with the player of his loan spell in Stuttgart in the 2021/22 season.
“I am not surprised by all this because I was convinced that Omar had huge potential,” Wimmer tells Sky Sports. “It was already clear he had a great future ahead of him. He knew exactly what he wanted and had the determination and the mindset to achieve it.”
Wimmer remembers Marmoush’s remarkable appetite for improvement, although not necessarily fondly. After training, he would insist on staying out to work on his finishing. “No matter what the weather conditions. Omar did not care if I was cold or soaked!”
This detail committed to. Marmoush’s last adjustment for Stuttgart was for the club. They had to win to stay in the Bundesliga and chase a past for it due to Cologne. Marmoush came out of the bank here to assist.
“It was the 92nd minute and Omar took the last corner of the game under maximum pressure,” recalls Wimmer. It was flicked on. “Right onto the head of Wataru [Endo]. It secured our place in the Bundesliga.” Stuttgart are now in the Champions League.
Marmoush’s progress has been equally unexpected and Wimmer is magnificent enough to prove Dino Toppmoller, Frankfurt coach, for getting the player. “The way Franfurt plays football is intelligent to Omar. He is perfectly left. “
But part of what makes Marmoush such an attractive proposition is that not only is he capable of functioning in the team in a variety of different roles, he is someone who has the skillset to thrive whatever the idea of the coach and whatever the game situation.
“When Omar came to us, he was immediately accepted because everyone knew that he could and he would help us. He is someone who adapts quickly and that makes him suitable to many clubs because he is also very flexible and fits many styles of play.
“For example, he can play with a low-blocking opponent because he has the technical ability to solve conditions at once and the ability to locate answers in tight spaces. Thanks to his game, he is an intelligent combined player.
“But all the clubs that play with intense dress and attack because it also has their qualities in the transition, where you can then use the speed of their movement towards the purpose and dynamic game.
“And if a team often looks for the spaces in between to create numerical overloads in the half-spaces, then that is also perfect for him, because he has the orientation skills to turn at the right moment and solve situations with his dynamism and creativity.”
His flexibility is likely to be a factor in what made him attractive to Manchester City, in particular. Their reliance on Erling Haaland has been such that he has started every single game for the club in the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
Consequently, calling an external attacker is a limited call because the threat would be that such a player is denied playtime. What is mandatory is who has the perspective to exceed for Haaland, if it is mandatory, but also to play in the same team as him.
It is the role that Julian Álvarez played for two seasons before spending at Atlético de Madrid in summer. Marmous can also do it. “In my opinion, Omar is very flexible and I think he can play in almost all offensive positions,” explains Wimmer.
“He has an enormous drive to score and he is very determined. He is very good one against one, very intelligent and makes the right decisions. He is very dynamic and fast as well as being technically outstanding. He looks mature and confident in all he does.”
Wimmer believes that Marmoush is “the best player of an attack space or the suspended striker, betting on an objective man”, but warns that by pointing out that two years have passed and part since he worked with him daily. “A lot occurs to the players in the days. “
In Marmoush’s case, this is true. His evolution as a goalscorer is partly because Frankfurt used him more centrally than before. Lifting from afar, Wimmer also detected other advances in his game, which took him to level.
“For me, it has also taken a step forward fundamentally its defensive paints so that it also looks good for the team that opposes the ball now,” he explains. “They have a player who also brings great attack and intensity to their pressing appreciation for their dynamism. “
His rise was so impressive that Wimmer considers a mid -season motion as a soft man. Frankfurt flies in the Bundesliga. Marmoush is just a Kane purpose on score lists. No one has help. The story does not seem complete.
“Eintracht can and will realize a lot this season. I am actually delighted with the path you have taken and will continue to descend. That’s why I would personally see him continue in Frankfurt or in the Bundesliga in general. “
Wait that Krosche, one guy with more, say in the matter, have a pragmatic vision. Frankfurt obtained an ordinary benefit in some other firm that they helped become an ordinary player. The city of men hopes to be the beneficiaries now.
