Nigerian foreign striker Victor Osimhen has signed a new contract with Napoli until 2026 with the Italian club. The new deal includes a €130 million clause.
However, Osimhen’s day of joy was marred by the two yellow cards he earned in the tumultuous clash against Roma, which led to his sending off in the match in which Napoli suffered a 2-0 defeat away.
The 24-year-old scored 26 Serie A goals in 32 appearances in 2022-23 as he helped Napoli win their first league title in 33 years.
Osimhen, who scored 31 goals in all competitions last season, was crowned Italy’s Player of the Year by the Footballers’ Association earlier this month.
He was also named African Footballer of the Year 2023.
Osimhen in November said he had made a “good career decision” after he was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer.
His previous contract was set to expire in 2025.
Napoli showed off the striker’s contract extension on social media with a message reading “together until 2026” and a photo of Osimhen and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Speaking about the new deal, Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda said: “We are all very satisfied with the new contract. We are going to do it and the main points will be on paper,” said the agent of the recently crowned African Player of the Year.
