Pac-12 launches new schedule, ASU opens in opposition to Arizona

Possibly there would be or wouldn’t be a school football season, however, the Arizona State Sun Devils now have an appointment for the company and a paint plan. And what a way to open.

The Sun Devils will begin playing against rival Arizona on September 26 in Tucson. The rivalry game was the final of the normal season for both schools. Other openers come with USC v. UCLA.

It will be the first assembly among the state’s rivals and will mark the third time two schools play in September (played on September 28, 1935 and 1946, either in Tucson) and the fifth time the Sun Devils will face Arizona in their season. opener (1915, 1919, 1935, 1937).

It’s not necessarily the fact that these games don’t require air that has motivated early planning.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said the ultimate thing to prioritize those rivalry games is that schools are in hot spots for the coronavirus and that putting them first gives them more flexibility if they are postponed. Four groups have free weeks on October 17, 4 plus October 24 and 4 plus October 31, with November 12 being an unusual opening date.

When asked if he was sure of himself that there would be a football season at school, Scott could not be offering much comfort.

“I don’t know. I think we’re all looking to take one step at a time,” he said. “I think we’re all cautiously optimistic. There’s a lot of things that are out of our control. There are things that are going to happen over which we have no influence.”

The Pac-12 announced last month that it would participate in a convention schedule only for football, but on Friday it released a full preview of who is playing against who, when and where. The schedule voted through the school principals before the day.

Each team has played nine convention games in the past and now each will play 10.

THE ASU, which comes 8-5 in 2019 with a Sun Bowl win, won Stanford, so the only convention opponent he will face next season will be Washington. The other nine parties to the conflict have changed, or places, just the dates.

ASU home games will be opposed to Utah, UCLA, California, Stanford and Oregon State, while away games will be played in Oregon, USC, Colorado, Washington State and Arizona.

Conference officials unveiled the new plan to the media Friday afternoon in a Zoom call attended by Scott, Arizona state athletic director Ray Anderson, Stanford football coach David Shaw and Oregon State Senior Athletic Director of Sports Medicine , Dr. Doug Aukerman.

The Pac-12 is the first convention to announce a full schedule.

The adjustment of the Pac-12 name was postponed for two weeks until December 19, with the top-ranked team. The original plan required the game to take place in Las Vegas at the new NFL Raiders stadium, but moving to a campus gives schools more and more flexibility. The move of the game to Las Vegas will now take place in 2021.

Scott added that there will not be a conventional mandate on whether viewers will be able to play. He said he would leave decisions to fitness officials and government officials in school areas.

Anderson added that collaboration between schools resulted in a timeline available to everyone.

“It’s exhausting, ” he said. “What has impressed me the most is that there are other things that are happening in other positions at this conference, however, we were given in combination and gave us a smart position for all of us. It gives us a lot of confidence that it can’t be a season. Array “

The original schedule called for the ASU to open the Pac-12 season opposite USC’s favorite Southern Division on September 26 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with games outside the conference on September 3 off northern Arizona, UNLV on September 12 and at home. opposed to Brigham. Young on September 19.

The ASU holiday originally was on October 17, just before a game in Colorado. That hasn’t replaced the game that’s now being played out in UCLA.

Teams can start the educational camp on August 17, it’s still strength and conditioning.
