The shipment arrived at the port of Chittagong during the holiday of Eid Al-Azha and therefore faced a delay in the port clearance.
After much anticipation, the first batch of beams to be used in the Padma Bridge Rail Link (PBRLP) mapping arrived at the port of Chittagong.
Given the planned schedule for the final touch of the project, this is a first step forward, as the production of metal beams has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic followed by major flooding, a press said Monday.
According to China Railway Group Limited (CREC), the allocation contractor, the production and delivery of metal beams is a major challenge.
Due to the upper water point of the Yangtze River and the plum rainy season in China, transporting Jiujiang City in Jiangxi Province to Shanghai Port via waterways is very complicated and risky, read the press release.
However, given the urgency of the factor and time frame, CREC has taken more steps, such as expanding the port of Shanghai in Singapore to ensure elegant beams shipment.
The shipment arrived at the port of Chittagong during the holiday of Eid Al-Azha and therefore faced a delay in the port clearance.
However, CREC has taken effective action and ensured the elegant delivery of fabrics to the site, he added.
Metal beams weigh about 50,000 tons, 8 metal lattice beam bridges and 53 metal plate beam bridges, all manufactured through China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co.Ltd., and shipped from the port of Shanghai to Bangladesh to meet and mount on site.
The transported metal beams shall be used in the work of bridges No. 87, 45, 49, 56, 107, 112 and 120.
These bridges are part of the project precedence segment, which will be opened first.
“The steel beams of other sections will have to go through a factory control meeting before being mass-produced. During production, the beams were marked in other colors so that they can be easily prominent for use on other bridges that will have to be built along the long line of the project.
“In addition, there are other types of beams that require other engineering techniques and technologies. As a result, the production procedure is very sophisticated,” he said.
Built through China Railway Group Limited (CREC), the 168.6 km allocation extends from Dhaka to Jessore.
During the total duration of the project, 16.7 km of railways were increased.
The commission consists of 181 km of ballast tracks and 32 km of ballastless tracks, 63 large, medium and small bridges with a total duration of 30.5 km and 230 sewers of sizes.
The assignment is one of the keys to the backbone of Bangladesh’s rail network.
Completion of the allocation will particularly improve traffic situations in Bangladesh and herald Bangladesh’s economic development, he added.
Unfortunately, according to CREC, the final touch of the allocation will be greatly delayed due to the blockade of the N8 highway, flooding and the current Covid-19 crisis, although the contractor has taken several steps to postpone the refusal. an effect on those factors, he said.
Benefits of PBRLP
Once completed, the Padma Bridge Rail Link (PBRLP) assignment will take the country’s connectivity to an unprecedented level.
The new rail link will travel the adventure distance between the capital, Jessore and Khulna, along 308 km.
This will also be the distance between Dhaka and Darsana and Benapole via 168 km and 318 km respectively, saving passengers time in adventure time.
The allocation is expected to stimulate Bangladesh’s economic development, particularly in the southwestern regions of the country, by expanding GDP by 1.5%.
The main line of the rail link is designed to be a single-track (1,676 mm) on which passenger trains will run at a maximum speed of 120 km/h while freight trains will operate at 80 km/h.
