The Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (COJO) announces the creation of the “Relais des Eclaireurs”. The project of these scouts is to bring the Olympic flame and do it in France for two months, before it arrives in Paris for the Opening Ceremony. 10,000 bearers are scheduled for those Olympics, and 1,000 will have to take part in the Paralympic Torch Relay, by August 28, 2024. But who are all these people?

To make the iconic flame travel, the OCOG has decided on 4 captains: Laure Manaudou (Olympic swimming champion), Florent Manaudou (Olympic swimming champion), Mona Francis (European Para triathlon champion) and Dimitri Pavadé (silver medalist at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in long jump).

Then, another 11,000 people will be selected for this exceptional relay. . . And you can be one of the explorers! In fact, as of June 1, 2023, you can apply, or nominate one of your relatives, through the Paris 2024 website. The OCOG needs to highlight France’s diversity, through the designation of “women and men, public figures and local figures, as well as strangers chosen from the general public, other people with disabilities.  All volunteers over the age of 15 are welcome. However, minors must have the consent of their legal guardian.

However, flame carriers will have to meet certain conditions. Candidates must constitute and 3 “energies”: the power of play (being an athlete, running in a game club), the power of the territories (highlighting the know-how). , French activities) and the power of the collective (running for solidarity, inclusion, sustainable society. . . ).

The sponsors of the Relais des Éclaireurs (Coca-Cola and Banque Populaire – Caisse d’Epargne) make their own variety among the aspirants to this position of standard-bearer. They are a third of the scouts.

To make this occasion even more innovative, OCOG has also planned team torch relays, in which 3,000 bearers will participate. To highlight sports federations, they also have the opportunity to level their delivery, organizing courses similar to their discipline.
