Paris police arrest 148 after PSG defeat in Champions League

PARIS (AP) – Paris police arrested 148 other people when Paris Saint-Germain football enthusiasts clashed with officials and wrecked cars and storefronts after the club lost the Champions League final in Lisbon.

Hundreds of enthusiasts have also been fined for wearing masks, a spokesman for Paris police on Monday said.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that 16 police officers were injured in Sunday night skirmishes. Police had no estimates of injuries among football fans.

PSG hoped to sign for Marseille as the only French club to win the european elite football competition, but lost to Bayern Munich 1-0. The defeat was met with mass celebrations in Marseille, where enthusiasts cheered and introduced flares and fireworks.

Back in Paris, police stormed a bar near the Champs-Elysées to aggressively evict people, as some were not dressed in masks or kept social distance amid considerations about coronaviruses.

Riot police used tear fuel to disperse accumulated outdoor enthusiasts from the club’s stadium. The PSG broadcast the setting on two giant screens in the Parc des Princes, with 5,000 enthusiasts allowed internally according to the maximum allowed for football matches in France as a component of antivirus coverage measures.
