Paris Saint-Germain ‘to sign up for Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte’

The foreigner from Spain has slowly slipped into Pep Guardiola’s pecking order, making just six Premier League starts in the current campaign.

Injuries did not affect Laporte, but Manuel Akanji was temporarily established as a normal starter for the club upon his arrival from Borussia Dortmund, and Guardiola has a host of other centre-backs at his disposal.

All Ruben Dias, John Stones and Nathan Ake, who has recently been used basically as a left back, can occupy the centre of the backline, further restricting Laporte’s initial chances.

March was a particularly frustrating month for Laporte, who has been an unused replacement on three occasions, and his only start was in a 6-0 FA Cup defeat to Burnley.

The 28-year-old’s contract with the Premier League champions expires in the summer of 2025, and he is said to have a concrete option to leave the club despite his lack of time to play.

Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be largely following developments and, according to Football Insider, PSG has expressed interest.

With City reportedly reluctant to do business with Premier League rivals opposed to Laporte, the French champions already have a credit to their compatriots Tottenham.

Laporte is not expected to run out of donations if he makes the decision to end his time in Manchester, where he has spent the last five years since signing a £57. 2m contract with Athletic Bilbao in 2018.

The foreigner from Spain, who has extended his contract with Man City since 2019, has 12 goals and 4 assists to his call-up in 171 outings for Man City in all competitions over five trophy-laden years.

Laporte has been part of 4 Premier League winning groups at the Etihad Stadium, as well as 4 EFL Cup crowns, one FA Cup and two Guardiola Community Shields.

The former France youngster named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2018-19, but his £120,000 consistent with the week’s pay cut could open up space for Man City to bring in a new centre-back this summer.

Guardiola’s side are believed to be one of many who will stick to RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, who has announced his preference to one day play in the Premier League.

Gvardiol’s Croatian compatriot Luka Vuskovic has also reportedly been the subject of an opening offer from Man City, but centre-back Hajduk Split, born in 2007, would likely sign up for the club’s academy groups or be loaned out immediately.

PSG are on the verge of tying Marquinhos to a new contract, but Sergio Ramos’ long-term remains uncertain as the 37-year-old is set to expire in June.
