Kylian Mbappe scored a debatable penalty to deny Newcastle an impressive win at the Parc des Princes, but the draw helps keep the visitors in contention to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.
The spot-kick was awarded after review by the video assistant referee, with referee Szymon Marciniak consulting the pitchside monitor before ruling Tino Livramento had handled the ball inside the box when blocking a cross.
It was a blow to Eddie Howe’s side, who looked set to pull off an impressive win after Aleksander Isak scored in the first half when Miguel Almiron’s shot went wide of the striker.
Newcastle then defended with everything they had to keep PSG out and Nick Pope made a very good save from close range to deny first Bradley Barcola and then Kylian Mbappe, who narrowly handled the rebound.
But the visitors were deeply devastated in stoppage time when PSG won the penalty, which Mbappe made no mistake.
The result means Newcastle are third in Group F, two points behind second-placed PSG.
Eddie Howe’s side will now have to beat AC Milan in their last match of organization and hope that Borussia Dortmund, already qualified, get a result against PSG.

It was a devastating end to this match for Newcastle after they put on a brilliant display of combat and bravery to keep the hosts at bay for 97 minutes.
Howe’s team arrived in Paris with a long list of injuries and had two goalkeepers on their bench along with 4 teenagers.
But those who played gave it their all and more, as in a matter of seconds they achieved a great result in the second leg of the Champions League.
They rode their luck at times, with Mbappe and Barcola both missing some big opportunities, and it looked like it was going to be Newcastle’s night.
But in the last minute of the 8th half, a cross from Ousmane Dembélé hit the chest of Livramento, who had hit the target, and the ball bounced off his arm.
Referee Marciniak had earlier dismissed a similar penalty claim for an Anthony Gordon challenge inside the box, but this time decided to award the spot-kick as Mbappe rescued his side.
But the decision seemed harsh on Newcastle and the result means progress to the last 16 is now not in their hands.
