Parisian ultras after Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’s announcement

According to Foot Mercato, Paris Saint-Germain’s Ultras are worried about their future after club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi announced his intention to leave the Parc des Princes stadium after Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo once said the site is not for sale.

As GFFN reports, Hidalgo wrote in French newspaper Ouest France reaffirming that the iconic stadium would be sold:

“I’ll repeat it: we are ready to study and assist in the transformation of the Parc. I’ll also say this again today, and in good faith to everyone: there will be no sale of the Parc des Princes. It is the heritage of the Parisian people. The subject is closed,”

Speaking in Paris at the UEFA Congress as a member of the UEFA Executive Committee, Al-Khelaifi responded:

“It’s too simple to say that the stadium is for sale. We know what we need, we wasted several years trying to buy Le Parc. It’s over, we have to move. “

As Le Mercato pointed out, it’s hard to know at this point if this announcement from the president is honest, but there are examples across Europe of groups like Bayern Munich and Juventus moving to new stadiums outside the city.

One thing is for sure: this protracted movement has not been well earned by the Parisian Ultras. According to RMC Sport, Virage Auteuil, the most vehement segment of fans, has been concerned for several months about the relocation project, with members of the Ultras Paris Collective contemplating that the Parc des Princes is part of their identity.

It may simply be a component of your identity that will soon be lost.
