Patriots camp is a ‘dream come true’ for this rookie

Many Massachusetts children dream of New England Patriots players.

Jake Burt is this dream.

Burt, whose hometown Lynnfield, Massachusetts, is sixty-five miles northeast of Foxboro, is halfway to its first Patriots education camp. The 24-year-old is looking to break through the list of 53 men as an undrafted rookie, and loves every second.

“It’s obviously a dream come true,” Burt said after Thursday’s practice. “Every day I walk into this building, I’m incredibly grateful to the Patriots and the whole organization. I couldn’t be happier every single day I’m here. There’s no other position I’d rather be in. Growing up here and a fan of all Boston sports is actually a dream come true, and I appreciate every single moment I have.”

Burt, who himself is an “unconditional fan” of the Patriots, is a Bay Stater veteran.

After betting as a top student at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, he went to Boston College, where he played 38 games in five school seasons. Burt served primarily as a blocker for the Eagles, scoring the best in his career with 15 receptions for 212 yards and a landing in his senior year.

Burt’s rookie contract included $85,000 in guaranteed cash, the fifth-tallest overall in 15-man UDFA elegance in New England.

“Me, my friends, my circle of relatives, massive Patriots fans, ” he said. «… I’m incredibly grateful to be on this scenario where I found myself, and it’s actually a dream come true. I took it one day at a time to improve my game and myself, and I couldn’t be happier to be a Patriot. “

Weighing 6 feet 3 inches and 260 pounds, Burt is vying for representatives with Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene, Ryan Izzo and Paul Butler at Patriots Educational Camp. With Asiasi and Keene guaranteed to be on the list as third-round draft picks, Burt, Izzo and Butler can fight for one place.

With 10 loose practices, Izzo, the only member of the New England tight-ending organization to be with the team last season, turns out to have the merit in this competition.

“It was great,” said Burt, who missed the previous back-to-back practice this week. “All the boys in the room are great. Coach (Nick) Caley is amazing. It was really a moment of laughter to meet the boys, to compete every single day, and personally I tried to do it all. every single day, to make sure my games are every single day. That’s all I’m concentrating on.”
