Obviously, the Patriots didn’t come into the offseason with plans to date Cam Newton as their starting quarterback.
The New England off-season began in March when Tom Brady decided to leave the Patriots to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After that, the search began to locate someone, anyone, to upgrade the largest quarterback in NFL history.
This adventure eventually took Bill Belichick to Newton, with whom he eventually developed an intelligent relationship. However, some time before Newton signed a contract last June, the Patriots allegedly kicked the tires in a possible industry for then-Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen, who eventually became part of Ron Rivera and the Washington football team.
Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal published a Sunday column about the festival the Patriots can face in the off-season to locate a new quarterback if Newton left town. Your presentation on Washington is noteworthy.

After losing (Dwayne) Haskins, Washington ends up with Alex Smith (two more years on a big contract that can be renegotiating) and Kyle Allen (agent who loses exclusive rights).

Allen started four games in 2020 for Washington, but his season was tricked after suffering a terrible leg injury in Week Nine against the New York Giants.
As to whether the Patriots would support exploring a business for Allen, his estimate is as smart as ours. Although at this point, there are much greater features in what will be one of the most important low seasons in patriot history.
