Penn State RB Journey Brown could miss the season

Penn State says ball carrier Journey Brown could miss the season due to a “health problem. “

247 Sports first reported Monday that the Nittany Lions, eighth in qualifying, could run out of their 2019 runner.

“Journey Brown is being treated for an illness that was discovered in the offseason and will possibly miss the 2020 football season,” the school said in a statement.

Penn State opens Saturday in Indiana. The Nittany Lions already suffered a loss in the primary this off season when American supporter Micah Parsons retired in August.

Brown, a junior fourth-year student, had an escape season last year and emerged from a crowded field to become Penn State’s most productive ball carrier. He ran for 890 yards, 12 touchdowns and 6. 8 runs consistent yards.

In Penn State’s cotton bowl win over Memphis, Brown ran for 202 yards, a school record for a bowling game.

Earlier this month, Brown told reporters that he plans to skip this pandemic-delayed season and pursue a career.

“You can’t go back, you’re four or five years old and you’re done. So I’m going to ride this one,” he said.

Sophomores Noah Cain (443 yards and 8 touchdowns) and Devyn Ford (294 and 3 touchdowns) will likely play more important roles if Brown doesn’t play.
