Pep Guardiola: Manchester City ‘definitely have to add players’ in January transfer window

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City “absolutely want to add players” to their squad in the January move window as they look the other way from their alarming slide in form.

The Athletic reported in the Boxing Day Transfer Deal Sheet that City are expected to be active in January as they plan to work on strengthening several spots in their squad over the next two movement windows.

City are planning on bolstering their defence, the midfield No 6 and No 8 positions alongside adding to their attacking options, although no one position has yet been prioritised for the upcoming winter window.

Guardiola’s side have won four Premier League titles in a row and six of the last seven, but their form has taken a sharp downturn this season — City have won just one of their most recent 12 matches across all competitions, and are currently seventh in the league.

“We want to upload players, definitely,” Guardiola told Amazon Prime Forward of the Christmas Day Fit opposite to Everton.

“You know, we’re hurting, especially at the back and in the middle, so I think we have to do that. But having said that, I don’t know what’s going to happen. The winter moving window is not easy, but everyone is aware of it. Even our players are aware of our scenario and what we have to do.

City director of football Txiki Begiristain will leave the club at the end of the season but will lead the process alongside Guardiola and relevant staff.

Guardiola recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Etihad and City are in a position to invest massively in players they believe will be their team.
