Frank McAvennie has subsidized New Celtic rookie David Turnbull to make his Hoops debut at this weekend’s game against Ross County.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, Celtic’s former forward said he hopes Turnbull will play an important role this season and insists he has been signed for the future.
The 21-year-old controlled moving from Moteherwell to Parkhead last summer before collapsing at 11 p. m.
Last month revealed that Celtic had paid a lower payout for the game creator than last year’s offer.
The Hoops paid an initial amount of 2. 75 million pounds, which could reach 3. 25 million pounds, which is less than 3 million pounds plus 500,000 euros in supplements they had to pay last summer.
When asked through Football Insider if he expects Turnbull to make his Hoops debut opposite Ross County, McAvennie said, “I hope so.
“Ryan Christie has played two games for Scotland, but Callum McGregor hasn’t played, so I’ll play Callum and, in my opinion, he’s a team pillar.
“For Celtic, I think Callum McGregor is wonderful, I know Ryan (Christie) scored goals (for Scotland) but there were some penalties.
“I love the boy that Turnbull and Lennon are going to put on him. I think it’s the best option for him.
“I think they’ll introduce him so he can feel it. The team has Turnbull. “
“You look around and you see new faces and let’s be fair (Shane) Duffy and Turnbull are two pros, two players.
“It’s not the season for Celtic to buy players for next year or the following year. I don’t think Turnbull hired him for that, I think he hired him to help the midfielder.
“I can’t wait to see him and Celtic now has a lot of players in midfield. “
