Doug Pederson made the decision that he could solve the Philadelphia Eagles’ disorders by returning as head coach in 2021.
He started Monday morning on his weekly radio show on SportsRadio 94 WIP, when he said he was “totally sure” he would return.
Later, at his Zoom media press conference, Pederson noted the fact that the Eagles have played in the playoffs three times in five seasons, a Super Bowl victory three seasons ago.
“I know exactly how to fix things, ” said Pederson. ” We’ve won a lot of games here. We’ve been in the playoffs for 3 of the five years I’ve been here, (won) a championship and all that. I’ve noticed, that’s where my trust lies. “
But the Eagles have backed each and every season since this Super Bowl and will miss the playoffs this season. They are 4-10-1 after their 37-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
The Eagles will close their season in front of the Washington team on Sunday night.
“It’s very disheartening, ” laments Pederson. ” I’m sitting here today and I have to do it with the fans. It’s not what we expected. It’s not what I expected at the education camp and at the beginning of the season. “
Of course, the pletlettive of injuries has an annual occasion for the Eagles, which Pederson was willing to recognize to protect his record. The Eagles, by the way, have a 22-26-1 record since the Super Bowl season.
“You look at our team (against Dallas) and there are so many new faces, so many players playing,” he said. “It’s been like this in the last two seasons. That’s the hardest thing to handle. “
When asked why the Eagles had suffered so much injury, Pederson said, “Football is a sport, man. “
But if Pederson is part of the Eagles’ solution, then he and control will have to take the position of quarterback. Pederson said rookie Jalen Hurts will finish the season opposite Washington and Carson Wentz will be away for the fourth consecutive game.
Hurts pitched for 342 yards against Dallas, his moment straight a week for 300 yards, but Hurts returned the ball three times, all in the last quarter, with two interceptions and one loose ball.
As for the long term of the post, Pederson said, “We’re not there yet to answer all those questions. Of course, things can change. We’ll respond on time. “
There are several others as a quarterback.
Eagles can organize a festival between Hurts and Wentz for the starting position in spring and camping.
There is also the option to exchange one of them. This may be the case, especially if the Eagles are writing up enough. It is imaginable that they end up in the number 3 position in the first circular or as low as number 10. Lately they’re number 6.
If they’re in the top five, they can pick someone like Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields or BYU’s Zach Wilson. That assumes Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence is the first or the moment, respectively, the Jacksonville Jaguars or the New York Jets.
Pederson said the return of fitness to the offensive line would make a big difference next season. The left shot of Andre Dillard and right guard Brandon Brooks have been lost all season. Lane Johnson’s right shot, left guard Isaac Seumalo and left shot at/Right Guard Jason Peters will miss at least seven games.
Injuries were also a thing in the open catcher, in high school and in other positions, but the game was also mediocre.
“I’d say we have the coins, ” said Pederson. ” We have the ingredients of a foundation to get things back on track. Let’s load new items (draft picks, loose agents) and organize a low season, organize a camp and expand everything, and then pass play. again next season. “
Pederson was then asked if he would like to have a voice in the workers’ decision-making body, this has been the domain of general manager Howie Roseman since Pederson became head coach in 2016, and here, Pederson responded either way.
“You get to that position because you like to be with the players and you like to teach football,” he said. “I will be a component of the solution. I will be a component of the evaluation process. I’ll be a heard voice. I have this collaborative communication with Howie and her staff, and be part of the process. “
He added: “I don’t necessarily have to cross that line because it prevents you from doing your homework as head football coach. And I love being in the football aspect as a former football player, and obviously now as a coach, that’s where my hobby lies. “
We’ll see if he gets it soon enough.
