Piers Morgan has praised Kai Havertz for launching his Arsenal career after all.
It took a while for Kai Havertz to start proving his worth at Arsenal. When he arrived at the Emirates Stadium following his £65m summer transfer from Chelsea, he lacked confidence.
It also took some time for the German to adapt to the tactical demands made on him by Mikel Arteta. Having played mainly as a striker at Stamford Bridge, the Arsenal manager moved him into a midfield role that he didn’t seem entirely comfortable with at first.
At times this season, Havertz has been the target of harsh criticism. Piers Morgan himself has previously mocked the 24-year-old as he struggled to find his footing at the north London club.
However, Arteta’s patience with the player is now paying off. The midfielder made a great contribution against Luton Town on Tuesday night.
In addition to scoring an important goal against the Hatters, Havertz put on a full-fledged display of combat. According to WhoScored’s stats, he made five shots, made four key passes, won six aerial duels, made two dribbles and made one tackle.
Whilst Declan Rice will grab the headlines for his last gasp winner, and David Raya’s errors will be held under the microscope, Havertz’s contribution should not be forgotten.
After the match, Arteta praised the Germany international who played 42 caps. As quoted on the club’s official website, the coach said: “I think Kai played his most productive game, it’s getting bigger and bigger. That’s what we need. Players who start to get the point and have a great time.
Havertz has scored three goals in his last four games for the club, indicating a notable change in his fortunes. He suddenly seems like a player full of confidence and has the kind of influence on games that he has been signed for. The potential and ability were there, but he, despite everything, connects it all.
Even Morgan has now changed his brain about Havertz. I admitted on X that “Havertz is experiencing a renaissance. “
The former Chelsea player will now have to keep that momentum going and continue to run the kind of competitive attacking runs that have given him so much joy in recent games. He shows his skepticism and wants to prove that he can consistently shine.
