Manchester City have unveiled plans to build a £10 million centre for their women’s team.
According to the existing facilities at the City Football Academy, the facility will open in 2025 if plans are approved.
It comes after City became the first Women’s Super League club to sign a naming rights deal for their women’s stadium last year.
The new facility will feature a hydrotherapy space, a high-performance gym and a research area.
Captain Steph Houghton said: “I’m incredibly proud to have lived at the City Football Academy for the past 10 years and to have noticed first-hand how the built-in amenities we are from have contributed to the progress of the women’s team.
“As we look ahead to the next step in our adventure of developing women’s football, it is fitting that we are now building our own purpose-built home, at the heart of the City Football Academy. “
The women’s team has lately had a construction with the club’s training groups (they have their own pitches), while the men’s first team has its own space.
Earlier this season, the club changed the name of its women’s stadium to Joie Stadium from a sponsorship deal considered to be the largest for a purpose-built women’s stadium in England.
The projects come after several Women’s Super League clubs took steps to further improve and integrate their respective women’s teams.
Liverpool bought back their old Melwood training ground for the women’s team to use while Manchester United unveiled a new £7m women’s training facility at their Carrington training ground in October.
