Player ratings: Real Madrid vs Chelsea FC

Chelsea and Real Madrid played in the Champions League quarter-final match on Tuesday night.

Madrid, of course, were heading into the match at the Bernabeu as the undisputed favourites to progress after a masterclass through Karim Benzema in the counter-attack that saw Real come out winning 3-1 that day.

And, despite Chelsea’s more productive efforts, they have not been able to overcome that deficit this week.

The tie started quite from start to finish, but it was Chelsea who took the lead 14 minutes later when Mason Mount clung to a deep pass from Timo Werner before beating Thibaut Courtois.

A satisfied adventure for Mason Mount, but the ending was not at all fortunate. . . ?

Thibaut Courtois (6) – I should have done a lot more with Werner’s goal. He was a backward composite figure when needed.

Daniel Carvajal (4. 5) – Bad continuation of Werner for the 3rd of the chelsea night.

Nacho Fernandez (5. 5) – He didn’t do much on the night and still conceded 3 goals to Chelsea.

David Alaba (4. 5) – Dragged out for the Opener of Mount.

Ferland Mendy (4) – Struggled to deal with loftus-Cheek and Reece James’ risk against Chelsea.

Casemiro (3) – He struggled to bring back Loftus-Cheek, who constantly moved to a central spot from his right-back role. Lucky not to give a penalty for his move to Havertz at the beginning of the half of the moment. Off after 78 minutes.

Luka Modric (8) – First half calm and guilty for Chelsea’s goal of the moment, which was brought down too gently by Rudiger. the most productive player of the house team in additional time.

Toni Kroos (5) – Took off after 73 minutes after a largely useless performance.

Federico Valverde (6) – He didn’t offer much for the future, but he was smart to leave behind.

Karim Benzema (7) – The Frenchman’s risk was largely neutralized in the most sensitive 45 minutes, being reduced to a long-distance shot that almost caused Mendy to enter for a deflection. He hit the crossbar with a header 65 minutes later, then marked the purpose 95 minutes later.

Vinicius Junior (6. 5) – He messed up Chelsea on the right for his fast pace. Good center for Benzema’s goal.

Edouardo Camavinga (6) – A more lively presence than the likes of Kross and Casemiro.

Marcelo (5. 5) – Much more effective than Mendy when he arrived and key to placing Modric in the preparation of the first Madrid.

Rodrygo (6) – Excellent for Madrid’s equaliser in the 80th minute.

Lucas Vazquez (5) – Made some blocks and tackles.

Dani Ceballos (N/A) – Little time in the field.

Edouard Mendy (5. 5) – He had nothing to do in the first half to punch. He couldn’t do much on Rodrygo’s goal and then stayed off guard for Benzema’s winner.

Reece James (6. 5) – He had the unenviable task of taking care of Vinicius Junior during the night, a task that became much more complicated when James received a yellow for a foul on the Brazilian less than 10 minutes later.

James kept the South American silent for long periods of time but stuck to him when he created Benzema.

Thiago Silva (6) – He did a great job shutting up Benzema in the sensible 45th. Bad marking of Rodrygo for his goal.

Antonio Rudiger (7): Helped neutralize Benzema’s risk in 90 minutes and was also a useful asset to move forward thanks to his aerial prowess: he scored a header for the purpose of the day. However, he slipped as he looked to challenge Benzema when he scored Madrid’s goal for the moment.

Marcos Alonso (5. 5) – Neglected on the property from the start and didn’t hit Rodrygo well for his goal. I think he scored on Chelsea’s 3rd, but that ruled through VAR.

N’Golo Kante (6) – A much brighter start to the game than the first leg, with Kante completing 34 of his 39 passes in the first half on Tuesday, 16 more than he controlled in the first half of the opposing game. However, the Frenchman became tired as the game progressed and his urgencies on Vinicius deficient when preparing Benzema’s goal. Stop after a hundred minutes.

Mateo Kovacic (7. 5) – He started the game well, returning to Chelsea’s 4 full-backs and interrupting the game with some key interceptions and tackles. He also provided the deep ball for Chelsea’s third.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (7) – He made a clever run through midfield, which dragged David Alaba out of position, to make up for the pre-attendance for the opening of the mountain. He could have followed Vinicius better for the Real winner.

Mason Mount (8) – Bad in ownership at the start of the game, but would score the first game with a curly grand finish and prepare Rudiger for the second.

Kai Havertz (6) – The pass falsified and tried to press forward. Very unfortunate not to have earned his team a penalty at the beginning of the 45th moment. He missed a great opportunity beaten in the game.

Timo Werner (8): He lent a hand in Mount’s first game and then composed himself incredibly to score Chelsea’s third goal. Take off after 83 minutes.

Alternates

Christian Pulisic (3) – He had two chances in time but missed them.

Hakim Ziyech (3) – He created very little when he was brought in.

Saúl Ñíguez (2) – He offered very little when he settled in. A poor replacement for Tuchel.

Jorginho (3) – Deflected shot in the last moments when he has at least tested the goalkeeper.
