After a 14-year wait to reach the quarter-finals, the Gunners travelled to Portugal on a five-game winning streak, with 21 goals scored in the process.
However, little of that offensive form was shown at the Estadio do Dragao, as Arsenal failed to score a single shot on target. Porto didn’t threaten each other much, until Gelano produced a sensational finish from the most sensible corner from distance with just enough of the final kick, to leave the Gunners with paints to do.
It was a game without quality or rhythm, with a steady flow of fouls that slowed down the momentum of both teams. The two great chances of the first half fell to Galen, in the area of about 3 moments. Merit to a William Saliba hesitation to find a loose ball and fired a great chance against the post, before deflecting the rebound a few yards as the ball came back to him. Gelano had the final say, but Arsenal will remain the same. He said he would get the job done on the leg back in north London on March 12.
