Coronavirus: here’s the Covid-19 point in Portsmouth according to the NHS Test and Trace app
Last coronavirus infection in Portsmouth, Southampton, Basingstoke, Winchester, East Hampshire, Gosport, Havant, Fareham, New Forest, Rushmoor, Test Valley and Isle of Wight
This occurs after Tipner’s site outside the M275 was filled overnight last week without the Department of Health having informed Portsmouth City Council, which would be transferred to Southampton Airport.
Now, council leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson said self-service would move to Northarbour Road, Cosham, near the South Central Ambulance service station.
The Tipner site can only be used temporarily, as it is mandatory to classify the trucks heading to the port on the occasion of the Brexit without an agreement that causes delays that would otherwise saturate the M275 and M27.
Cllr Vernon-Jackson said: “When the government was looking for a check center for Hampshire, we proposed to Tipner, on the understanding that we needed him until October, so we could be ready for Brexit.
“They took it from that base and had to (should) operate until 5 October, then reopen at Southampton Airport on 6 October.
“They close Tipner early telling anyone.
“Now we’ve introduced them, and they’ve agreed, in Cosham, for us to have a verification center in Cosham in a few weeks. “
Queen Alexandra Hospital has its own staff, while the University of Portsmouth offers an appointment-free center with a mandatory reservation at nhs. uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.
Portsmouth Conservative Group leader Donna Jones tweeted, “The new #Covid check is now shown in the north of town on North Harbour Road Cosham – it will open in 2-3 weeks. “
The News contacted the Department of Health and Social Affairs to ask when it was open.
