Portuguese stadiums inspected for the 2030 World Cup

FIFA will carry out a technical inspection at the Dragão, Alvalade and Luz stadiums on 26 and 27 May to assess the choice of the three venues for the 2030 World Cup matches.

The stadiums of FC Porto, Sporting and Benfica are the only ones with a minimum capacity to host the matches of the 2030 World Cup, a party that Portugal is organizing together with Spain and Morocco.

In April, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando Gomes, announced that Lisbon’s Estádio da Luz would host one of the competition’s semi-finals.

“Portugal will play a semi-final with the country that will host the final,” he said, adding that FIFA is calling for the stadium to have at least 60,000 seats.

Of the 3 stadiums that will host the festival – two in Lisbon (Estadio José Alvalade and Estádio da Luz) and one in Porto (Estadio do Dragão) – Benfica’s stadium exceeds this capacity.
