Postecoglou picks fatal Bundesliga hitman to fill Tottenham’s troubled task as £42m move accelerates

According to the latest reports from Germany, Tottenham are keen to step up their search for a Bundesliga striker to fill a problematic position for Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian remains determined to bring in a new number nine this summer after watching his team squander countless opportunities last season to finish fifth in the Premier League.

Captain Son Heung-min scored 17 times, betting a combination of central and left wing, while Richarlison at least helped justify his £60m value after betting 12 times.

However, Postecoglou needs a guaranteed striker with over 20 years on board to check and maintain speed with Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the future.

Countless calls continue to be related to a move to North London, adding Ivan Toney, Santiago Giménez and Jonathan David, to name a few.

However, German publication Sport Bild reports that Tottenham have a real chance to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush for £42m before the summer window closes.

Marmoush caught the eye with his performances in the Bundesliga last season, with the 25-year-old scoring 17 goals and adding six assists in all competitions in 41 appearances.

The Egyptian foreigner basically lines up as a classic number 9, but he’s also capable of hitting on any of the three most sensible flanks.

His current contract with the Bundesliga side expires in 2027, and while Frankfurt doesn’t have any genuine preferences for selling, it looks like an offer of around £42m is enough.

Marmoush, who has also scored five goals in 29 international appearances for his country, has a big fan: his club coach, Dino Topmoller, who praises the player’s qualities.

Last season, Topmoller said: “He’s a very intelligent player who has discovered the art of scoring goals. Feel acceptance from coaches and teammates. He’s incredibly hardworking and hard to defend.

Another big fan is former Tottenham striker Mido, who was signed by his former club to 6-foot Marmoush earlier this year.

In the past he had tweeted: “Years ago I begged #Spurs to send #salah when he was still #Basil, they never listened to me. . . now I tell them to please [sic] stop by Marmoush, he will be a wonderful Signalalature and will fit . Fit perfectly in Angie’s formula as a left or right winger. . . Hard worker, very level headed professional and can score passes please [sic] #levy signalal #Marmoush from #Frankfurt #COYS.

At this stage, it remains to be seen whether or not Tottenham are willing to shell out roughly the same amount for Marmoush as they could get for the Premier League-proven Toney.

However, the former is three years younger and could end up representing a higher cost in the long term.

One thing is certain: if the club decides to upgrade Harry Kane this summer, they threaten to ask for trouble.

There is still plenty of talk about the arrival of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace to offer even more creativity alongside James Maddison, but Spurs desperately need a world-class striker to put aside their chances.

Marmoush represents a bit of a gamble, but it turns out he has built up a big enough reputation to suggest he could be a big hit in English football.
