USMNT and Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie believes he emerged stronger from a loan spell at Leeds United, where he felt he was “letting others down. “

McKennie spent the second half of last season in England but registered just one pass in 19 Premier League appearances, a campaign that ended with Leeds’ relegation.

But the 25-year-old has become increasingly important this season for Juventus under Massimiliano Allegri and believes that experience means he has returned to Italy with the new goal of becoming himself.

Stephen Kenny’s contract with the Republic of Ireland will be renewed, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has announced.

Kenny’s departure comes after the Republic failed to qualify for the Summer European Championships in Germany.

The 52-year-old took charge of his final game on Tuesday night, where his side drew 1-1 in a friendly with New Zealand in Dublin.

In a statement on the FAI website, CEO Jonathan Hill said: “Over the period of his tenure, Stephen and his staff have worked tirelessly to create the right environment to support the development of our senior men’s team, and we are hugely grateful for that considerable contribution.

“Stephen has also overseen an important period of transition for our senior men’s national team and has given debuts to a significant number of new and younger players and this will serve as a solid platform for whoever now takes this group of players forward.”

Kenny had admitted he was unlikely to continue in that role after the Republic of Ireland finished fourth in their qualifying group, wasting both of their wins against Gibraltar.

“Of course, it would be a dream to carry on and manage the team, but my instinct is that’s not going to happen,” he said. “The evidence suggests that probably won’t happen, so I respect that as well.”

Jose Mourinho says he intends to manage in Saudi Arabia in the future — but for now loves “special” Roma.

The former Tottenham, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager signed a three-year contract with the Italian side in 2021, guiding the club to the Europa Conference League title in his first season.

He this week said he not spoken to Roma owner Dan Friedkin about a contract extension beyond next summer, but told RAI1 when asked about his situation: “The people here make the temperature running through your veins feel different. I love the people here. I have no problem saying Roma is special for me in my career.”

When asked about a possible move to the Saudi Pro League, he added: “One day I will go, but not tomorrow or the day after. “

Mourinho won La Liga and Copa del Rey titles at Real Madrid more than a decade ago and while current boss Carlo Ancelotti’s future remains in the spotlight amid Brazil interest, the Portuguese boss says the Italian would be “mad” to leave like he did. .

“When you have a wonderful coach (Carlo), why would you think of another?” said Mourinho. I know (President) Florentino (Perez). He’s a super wise guy with transparent ideas.

“As a Madrid player and ‘Ancelottista’ (Ancelotti fan), I hope they have a season and Carlo stays because he is the best coach at Real. Only a madman like me can leave Real against the club’s will. I left even though they “need me to stay. “I’m sure Ancelotti will abide by the first sign he receives from Don Florentino. “

Emma Hayes says she is yet to decide if she will travel to the United States to visit the USWNT’s camp during December’s international break with her “full focus” on Chelsea.

U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker said on Monday he was hopeful the incoming head coach would join up with the USWNT during December’s camp to meet players and staff, and interim head coach Twila Kilgore explained she and Hayes had “collaboratively” selected the roster.

When asked how he divides his time between Chelsea and the USWNT, he replied: “No, there is no division. My time is with Chelsea.

“Since I was appointed coach, I’ve had conversations with other people to identify that there are other full-time people stationed in the U. S. I’ll be there in May. When the opportunity arises, I’ll have conversations with Twila. But I’m completely focused on Chelsea.

When asked if he would fly to the United States for next month’s matches, he continued: “I haven’t done it yet. I’m definitely focused on the upcoming games, and if not, I’ll check it out to take a Zoom call when possible. “.

Sam Kerr is “fit” after a war with an injury that hampered his World Cup.

The Chelsea striker suffered a calf on the eve of the summer tournament in Australia and New Zealand, which threatened to rule her out entirely.

She missed Australia’s first two games before returning to something close to fitness and eventually scoring in the hosts’ semi-final defeat by England.

Speaking about Chelsea’s Women’s Champions League match against Paris FC on Thursday, Kerr said the road back has been a “process” but that she has “turned the corner” and is about to return to her best.

“It will be better. It’s been a process,” he said at a news conference alongside manager Emma Hayes.

“Since I’ve been at Chelsea, I’ve never had to deal with a small injury or an issue. So it’s been pretty frustrating. I’m used to being at such a high point in fitness and being able to take a step back. “Game after game, education after education.

“I feel like I’m on the rise now and I’m not at my peak yet, but I’m still racing and enjoying it.

“Honestly, it’s something that I haven’t really dealt with in my career a lot, so it’s been a bit of a challenge, but I feel like I’ve turned the corner now and I’m on the up.”

Millie Bright is doubtful for Chelsea’s Champions League organisational level against Paris FC on Thursday as she continues to manage her load following knee surgery.

The centre-back missed her side’s victory over Liverpool on Saturday amid a congested run of fixtures and Emma Hayes said she was “50/50” for Thursday’s game.

The Chelsea boss also showed that there is a “strong possibility” that Bright will withdraw from the England squad for the December internationals.

“Millie is 50/50 for tomorrow,” Hayes said. It’s very doubtful for tomorrow.

“The preparation for the World Cup is not ideal. He probably rushed in and also came back here after the World Cup and temporarily in Chelsea’s season. Maybe I needed a little more time. His knee is a little angry right now. Not so. We’re just listening to your body. We’re going to make decisions on a day-by-day basis.

Bright missed the final two months of the 2022-23 season with a knee injury but returned for England’s run to the World Cup final and has appeared seven times in all competitions for Chelsea this season.
