Preparing for the 2020 Fantasy Football Draft: The undercover fake draft takes you to the global first-round WR

Welcome to our “Undercover Mock” series, where our analysts will surreptitiously interact in mock drafts with other genuine people. Unlike our deft drafts, you might not see Patrick Mahomes fall into the third circular here. These are real simulated drafts with other people who don’t analyze Fantasy Football. We review to show you how to find genuine benefits by writing with other genuine people.

MOCK: 12-team PPR, overall

DATE, TIME, PLACE: Friday, August 21, 9:30 a.m., ESPN

OBJECTIVE: What kind of equipment can be built with an open receiver trapped in the first round?

There is no plan to implement a Zero RB strategy, there is no plan to choose another position at any other time in the draft, just a plan to take an open receiver on the first circular, either Michael Thomas or Davante Adams.

Thomas went to 1.05, so Adams was 1.08. In a genuine draft, I would have accepted Miles Sanders, but I keep my promises.

But there were no regulations after that.

One of my main philosophies on Draft Day is to take you from the beginning with trusted runners. If you wait too long, you’ll actually be strong elsewhere, but you may not be in the only position in Fantasy that tends to get the highest score.

I aimed at the midfields with my next two selections and felt smart to have Joe Mixon in the 17th overall position. Your ADP is there on CBS Sports, but I see it regularly from 8 to 12 overall. Between him and Adams, I feel like I’m cheating on the rest of the league with two first-round players.

What would possibly have propelled Mixon towards me was that Lamar Jackson was hooked on 13th overall. Again, ADP suggests that this might be a little later than normal, however, to me, it seems like an overpayment by a quarterback. Yes, it would possibly be amazing in 2020, but it’s hard to justify taking it when …

So I owe a giant meatball to the guy who took Jackson in 13th position so Mixon can slide a little more.

Maybe it’s my lucky day: after getting Mixon in Round 2, I got James Conner in Round 3. It’s no surprise when you do your ADP, but all the indications from Pittsburgh are that Conner will be the Steelers’ main runner until further notice. :

I would have been willing to take another runner in Round 4, but I couldn’t see one I liked as much as Cooconsistente with Kupp. Its price keeps going down because Array.. I don’t know. The guy has 16 touchdowns and 5.6 game-consistent receptions in his last 24 games overall and other people are panicking because his playing time decreased towards the end of last season. It’s not going to stay that way. In my opinion, he’s a number one receiver, unless this is my number two.

If you keep our Fantasy Football Today podcast or have been reading my stuff since the summer, you know I’ve developed great confidence in the Buccaneers ball carrier, Ronald Jones. I think he’ll be smart enough to be an offensive part No. 2, but you can choose him as No. 3. And that’s what I did here as opposed to an offensive part in the fifth inning. It was a fairly simple decision: risk not having a third ball carrier when they pass like hot buns, or take whatever they want. Hmm, not too much.

My team five rounds:

1.08: Davante Adams, WR, Packers 2.08: Joe Mixon, RB, Bengals 3.08: James Conner, RB, Steelers 4.05: Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams 5.08: Ronald Jones, RB, Buccaneers

I’m delighted. I haven’t reached a quarterback and I know I’ll find a price-adjusted ending later, plus I have the big solid broker I wanted.

Continuing, I was lucky enough to have a quarterback in the six most sensitive in the sixth inning, which is a smart value, but I didn’t. I decided to buy the whole receiver frame when I got Stefon Diggs. It was a difficult task: Diggs actually has a No. 2 catcher upside down, but a stallion quarterback in the sixth inning is a smart deal. In the end, I knew Diggs was the most productive deal and that I could wait even longer for a quarterback, but it was close. If I’d taken a smuggler, it would have been Russell Wilson.

In fact, the next two selections were Kyler Murray and Wilson, and so the first six quarters of fantasy this year were history.

I may have overreacted and chosen the most productive remaining quarterback with my next election. Instead, I took Tarik Cohen in the hope that the closed wing Hunter Henry would slide. As quarterbacks, I look for good, tight values in the draft. Fortunately, Henry came to my list a trick later.

Yes, I still needed a quarterback, but one fun thing happens when you expect one: many other draft managers get theirs, so (correctly) don’t worry about taking a pin moment before much, much later. So, after the game of the first six quarters and Drew Brees, I tried the board and knew I could wait for circular 10 and still get one from Tom Brady, Matt Ryan or Josh Allen. That’s why I wasted on Jalen Reagor in Round 9.

And that’s the story of how they gave me Tom Brady, the guy who threw Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and Rob Gronkowski and Scotty Miller (who?!), to be my starting quarterback in Round 10. An absolute flight, especially its ADP on CBS is 50 PICKS MORE than where I was given it.

Maybe it’s because it’s a simulation. Maybe not. The fact is, wait for your quarterback.

I have to be honest, they’re not a bad team. The only thing that literally bothers me is that Kupp, Scott, Harris and Love would have taken at least one lap earlier than when I did them. He tells me that the values they gave me with my genuine fantasy team were excellent.
