Ang Postecoglou spoke with the media at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after our 3-0 Elfsborg victory in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.

The result secured a place in the top eight of the league phase and our progress directly into the Round of 16, where we’ll face one of Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar or Midtjylland over two legs on 6/13 March.

This is what I had to say . . .

“It’s been a pretty good European campaign for us. We have had to deal with some adversity in it. Even the first game we played here I remember we were down to 10 men after about 10 minutes. We have dealt with it pretty well considering the group we have got.  We have put ourselves in a great position. We are through to the round of 16 and have missed the play-off game which gives us a couple of more weeks to get players back. So hopefully by the time the knockout rounds come we will have some more fit bodies to help the group and it is an exciting challenge for us.”

“I just said Tottenham was finished tonight. It’s wonderful for the club and I’m sure there are academy coaches and players who won’t sleep tonight because they’re quite excited. Have an effect and not just the 3 scorers.

“We look at their situation. I had some disappointing loans. I think sending him back any genuine perspective of developing, we just felt that he did work out with us and give him a chance to work out with us and see with us and see how it goes.

“The 3 (substitutions) in the half time were planned, the 3 are fine. We have a great week to come and see to manage our players. They gave everything they can. Surround now. Be forty -five and felt good.

“You may already see that you have a presence there. With the guys that are hurt, we have quite a few that are long-term, and they just need to help, so they come with a positive power that is helping the other kids.

“He started the game really well, but he had a bit of a struggle after that. But he’s 17 and that’s just part of his growth. Getting a goal will I’m sure give him confidence. He’s been good for us in this tournament and in the early part of it he was a big part of what we were doing. He’s 17 and if he keeps developing and we nurse him along and protect him along the way, he’s got all the attributes to be an outstanding talent for us. He’ll remember tonight which is great. Scoring a goal at home and in Europe is great for him, but he knows he’s still got a lot of work to do and we’re going to help him.”

“I don’t know of many teams that are finishing European games like us with five or six teenagers on the field. It’s a challenge for us, but credit to the lads. They’re just cracking on with it and the young boys are taking their opportunities. They’ll all bear fruit in time. This exposure we’ve given them, the growth they’ve made, I’m sure they’ll all be encouraged and I think the rest of the Academy will too, the young players in there, because they’ve seen the players they’re sharing a dressing room with scoring for Tottenham on a European night. I’m sure it’ll give a boost to the whole place.”

“It’s great, however, I think it’s a much more faithful moment for the club itself. That’s what academies are. , so that our enthusiasts can perceive that the club.
