PSG – Borussia Dortmund: Champions League results and highlights

Dortmund qualified for the Champions League final after a match against PSG at the Parc des Princes. Mats Hummels scored the only goal as the hosts failed to find their way past Erin Terzic’s side.

The first half unfolded exactly as Dortmund would have liked, with Kylian Mbappé on the outer edge of the game and Gregor Kobel with almost nothing to do. PSG made some purposeful efforts from long range, but nothing worrisome.

The second half was played with their backs to the wall, but they still took the lead after a corner kick by Hummels.

Luis Enrique’s team were lifeless after the goal, but ended up exerting a lot of pressure, although it came too late.

PSG scored 4 times, but Zaire-Emery missed the chance just before Hummels’ header.

Dortmund put bodies on the line and blocked shot after shot to return to the Champions League final, where they will face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid for the first time in 11 years.

Don’t register here at AS USA to find out who will face Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley!

Real Madrid host Bayern Munich after a 2-2 draw in the week in Bavaria.

Kickoff is at 3 p. m. ET / 12 p. m. PT, with preparation a few hours in advance.

xG can be a useful tool for figuring out which team created the most productive chances when you weren’t watching the game. Although it suggests that PSG were knocking on the door and creating one chance after another, which I’m not entirely sure.

His next club has not been officially confirmed, the general opinion is that he will fly to Real Madrid. Some in Paris have not given up hope of convincing him to stay.

In any case, I wouldn’t have wanted it to end that way.

It’s less of a precedent for PSG than it used to be, but they’re still desperate to win the Champions League for the first time, let’s be honest. The wait will last at least another year.

11 years ago, Dortmund were beaten by Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at Wembley. Now, perhaps they will have the chance to take revenge on their German rivals in the same place, Real Madrid will certainly give their opinion.

Who saw this coming when the Champions League was played earlier in the season?

DORTMUND ARE IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL!

Mbappé fouls the goal, and falls flat on his face! That’s how PSG fared tonight.

Suddenly, Schlotterbeck found himself counter-attacking in front of PSG’s corner flag and brazenly brought down Beraldo, but he didn’t commit any fouls.

Mbappé from the penalty spot! It looks flawless, but Schlotterbeck puts pressure on it. . . Nothing is given!

Four minutes for PSG to score two goals and force extra time.

Four minutes of added time.

Barcola moves away on the left and has Mbappé and Dembélé in the middle, he hits the ball too much.

PSG put on non-stop pressure! The ball reaches Lee on the edge of the box but goes wide!

Another deflected goal! It’s shaking from this veteran from Vitinha!

In fact, Hakimi reserved this incident with Schlotterbeck.

Kobel unleashed a high ball that fell to Mbappé in the box. However, he didn’t attack well, he could have scored if he had.

But he’s scored!

Pending clarifications, Nmecha replaced Brandt in the few minutes.

It turns out he’s been given a yellow card, but no one knows who.

A hot spot on the sidelines as Hakimi and Schlotterback go head-to-head. Bad for PSG’s right-back, who pushed the Dortmund defender when he was already on the ground.

From the free kick, Marquinhos gets his head in but manages to deflect the ball past the post!

Schlotterbeck collides with Lee Kang-in, recovers the ball. . . But a loose shot is given. It entitles me to it.

Ever since I said PSG had to wake up, they’ve woken up a bit!

Mbappé scores for the first time, but he does it from a tight angle and manages to pass the ball past Kobel!

A corner from the left found its way back to Asensio, who missed his first shot and then had a second shot blocked.

Dortmund’s brilliant defense. Like a whole game.

Barcola has a blocked shot, Vitinha has a blocked shot, Mendes has a blocked shot. . .

You were given the idea.

PSG really want to wake up here. They leave moaning.

PSG are living dangerously! Hummels has the ball behind him from a corner. . . even if he’s offside.

Lee Kang-in replaces Zaire-Emery with the French.

Surely Dembélé attacks Schlotterbeck and is lucky to have touched the ball. . .

Otherwise, it may have simply been red.

Mbappé recovers the ball in a “typical Mbappé position” and. . . spins the ball over the crossbar.

Mbappé, who now plays more through the middle, enters down the right wing and sends the ball into the box. . . No receivers!

There’s a lot of inspiration from the hosts right now. They’re very, very flat.

PSG want a spark from somewhere. From anywhere.

There is no mystery about what Dortmund are planning for this quarter. Centre-back Süle replaces winger Sancho.

Hummels earned a yellow card for this foul on Dembele.

Asensio shoots low, but it goes wrong. Easily locked and erased.

There may still be a strong chance for Asensio with a loose shot.

The referee comes up with it, and the VAR nods!

Dembélé falls. . . ! Inside or outside?

Barcola made an impact, earning a foul (and a yellow card) from Sabitzer as he escaped.

Double substitution for PSG

Barcola and Asensioon for Ramos and Fabián.

Another goal from Ramos, who moves again. This one also has width. It’s not pretty, in any case.

A CRUCIAL header from AFCON! Mbappe whipped in a brilliant cross, but the Dortmund captain was in a good position to tackle it.

Out of nowhere, from the edge of the box!

A wonderful opportunity for hosts! Hakimi picked up the ball on the edge of the box and passed it to Ramos, who shot over the more sensible one when he probably had done better.

Reus follows Adeyemi’s path to thwart Hakimi. I might have to do more.

Dortmund do very well to keep Mbappe away. Every time he takes possession of the ball, there are two yellow shirts right above him.

PSG pass the ball with a real goal at the moment. This goal relieved them. What a little sting they had.

It turns out to be a small move on Terzic’s part. Adeyemi had worked well offensively and defensively.

Adeyemi is gone. Next up is Marco Reus, who will leave the club at the end of the season after 12 years.

Does Kylian Mbappé defend again in his own area? Or does the haze of the flames cloud my vision?

A few more crosses into the home team’s box don’t give any real sign of danger.

PSG also had their role in style. . .

Wow! What do PSG have in their locker?

Well, it’s as simple as you need it to be! Brandt takes a corner to the far post for Hummels, who rises above everyone else to beat Donnarumma!

Hummels! ENORMOUS!

Adeyemi tries to overtake Marquinhos in the fog of the Parc des Princes and wins a corner. . .

PSG got off to a fast start! Ryerson is right to put in a damaging cross from Hakimi for a corner. But from there, Ramos sends the ball to Zaire-Emery, who has an open goal at the far post but can only hit the post from a tight angle.

Serious rocket painting work is underway on one of the lenses. It looks pretty hot there.

Dortmund get us back on track in Paris!

On the organizational level between the teams, PSG won 2-0 thanks to two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half from Mbappé and Hakimi.

What they would give for a practice session here.

It happened exactly as Dortmund would have liked. They absorbed the pressure, defended and limited PSG to almost nothing.

The Germans have frame around Mbappé, who has been incredibly calm down the left, with the maximum risk of attack from the hosts coming from the opposite flank with the more erratic Dembélé and Hakimi.

PSG had some long-range shots that didn’t worry Kobel too much.

Dortmund weren’t particularly threatening either, but they created the chance for the half, with Adeyemi forcing a brilliant save from Donnarumma at the end of a lightning counter-attack.

Perfectly in a position for the middle moment.

The hosts had maximum ownership but struggled to create something remarkable. In any case, nothing inside the area. I think Dortmund’s xG will be a bit higher given Adeyemi’s luck, but what do I know. . . ?

A strangely low-key first half, but Dortmund will settle for it!

Mbappe has kept a low profile and PSG have rarely threatened Gregor Kobel. There are forty-five minutes left.

Dortmund are still leading 1-0 on aggregate. They will be very happy with how they fared in this part!

One minute of added time.

It may have gone anywhere! Dortmund lost the ball inadvertently and it fell to Fabian, who sent another from the edge of the box. He hits Schlotterbeck and goes for a corner, but he may have flown softly into the more sensible corner.

A great move by Maatsen put the ball in the legs of Zaire-Emery. One for the YouTube highlights trailer than the proper recap, as he then fumbles the ball.

It was a wonderful chance for Brandt to put Adeyemi Hakimi in. However, it was a bad run.

Vitinha got fed up and shot from almost 30 meters! He hit it well but it goes straight to Kobel.

Mbappe got past Ryerson for the first time, but it’s possible that a cross could find its way into Kobel’s hands.

Fair play, Kylian Mbappé, who intervened to calm the situation. The PSG star told Dortmund he would chase them and they could just play the ball.

There’s a bit of controversy here. Dortmund kicked the ball for Füllkrug to be taken care of (okay, surprise, surprise). Ramos returned it to him, but took it for a throw-in near the corner flag. Naughty boy.

Füllkrug is out of Dortmund after taking a blow to the head, at first glance.

It might be HUGE! Seconds after the ball cleared Mbappe in the Dortmund box, the Germans ran to Adeyemi, who entered the box and fired a low shot, but Donnarumma extended a great hand to prevent it from going in!

The most productive chance I’ve had so far!

Can throws a hopeful ball into the channel that forces Donnarumma out of his line, and Sabitzer hopes to take advantage of a mistake.

Mbappé, despite everything, comes back to life! He veers to the right and discovers Zaire-Emery, who discovers Dembele. The winger shoots deflected but can’t contain himself!

A few delicious touches from Sancho, which led nowhere, but looked superb. Silky on the side.

Dortmund were building a promising attack, but the right-back looked away from the ball, let it slide under his foot and went out to shoot.

Vitinha tries to replace it but creates a tall, wide and very beautiful one at 25 meters.

A quiet 25 minutes for Gregor Kobel in the Dortmund goal. Probably more than I imagined.

This has happened to Mbappe so far. He tries to get past Ryerson but manages to get past the ball, which comes out for a purposeful kick.

Mendes advances for the first time. Hummels is there to clean up his low center.

The one with the action from the stands! PSG’s players show a team.

Undoubtedly, a more balanced feeling of play in the last minutes. All of PSG’s attacks are on the flank. Mbappé is on the left. . .

Dembele leaps down the right and surely sends a cross into goal that would have ripped someone’s head off if he had hooked up with it.

It was a clever old long shot that created this Dortmund chance. We don’t see many of them on those days, especially in the Champions League.

Ryerson crashes into the side net from a tight angle after a Füllkrug heist!

A brilliant set of Sancho’s wings! He beat Mendes and entered the box, but his cross was blocked.

Mendes takes possession of the ball in his part and sees Dembélé who escapes down the right, but his pass is too far forward to the winger and Kobel recovers.

So far we haven’t paid much attention to Mbappe. PSG hope that this will be replaced soon.

Ryerson steps forward for the first time and walks into the box, but Fabian selects his wallet at that moment.

Dortmund hit the ball for the first time in the match. So far he’s done it a lot.

Vitinha passes to Ramos, who takes a throw-in, turns and drags a shot from the edge of the box!

The ball goes over Adeyemi on the edge of the domain and his volley cuts out a PSG header!

Almost a chance for Adeyemi to break through! Marquinhos intercepts it and returns it to Donnarumma, who is not joking and considers it a shot.

The anti-sweeper guardian over there!

Mbappé is looking to get there for the first time, but Ryerson has his wits and cuts the pass.

Dortmund had a bit of the ball in PSG’s half. In fact, they gave it to him a little bit.

Good forward defense from Ramos, who takes his daily work very seriously. You’ve noticed that in Messi or Neymar. . .

Dembélé takes advantage of a moment from a corner and his pass reaches Mbappé, whose first volley goes straight to Kobel!

Adeyemi came back but Dembele took a corner, PSG’s first.

Hakimi moves away to the right and throws in a cross, which Kobel takes out and reclaims.

A simple lure for one or the other goalkeeper.

Hakimi crosses from the left to Ramos, who can still push him into Kobel’s arms down the stretch.

All of PSG’s initial ownership so far.

First touch for Donnarumma, who can put his cap (if he had one) on Füllkrug’s head after a loose shot by Maatsen in the box.

A draw is enough for Dortmund to qualify for the final at Wembley on June 1.

PSG need a win with two goals to advance.

Anything in between and we’ll go on to go through for a long time.

Marquinhos throws the first ball into the Parisian night sky. It wasn’t a Champions League. . .

PSG are launching us!

Ready? We’re seconds away!

Not that suspension regulations aren’t the only thing that has replaced the festival in recent years. Here’s a very important update related to away goals. . . or lack thereof.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Champions League semi-finals: what happens in the event of a draw?

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

What is the away goals rule in Champions League semi-finals?What happens in the event of a tie?

The Chaaaaaaaampiooooons!

You know how it goes.

By the way, there are new suspension rules (it’s exciting!) for the Champions League semi-finals and final. And that’s good news for men in the field.

Here’s more.

Please forgive me in advance if I ever see the dots in the “u” in “Füllkrug”. . .

Kobel; Ryerson, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Maatsen; Sabitzer, Can; Sancho, Brandt, Adeyemi; Full mat.

Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Beraldo, Mendes; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Fabian; Dembele, Ramos, Mbappé.

A few minutes before departure, let’s take a look at how the groups will line up!

Daniele Orsato is the middle boy for the attack in Manchester. He probably hopes you don’t call him tomorrow, because if you do, he’ll have screamed. Here’s Paul with the facts about the Italian whistler.

PSG duo Dembele and Hakimi take on the former club

There are two players in the PSG squad who will have an advantage over their former club.

Right-back Achraf Hakimi spent two seasons on loan in Germany as a youngster at Real Madrid and scored nine goals in 2019/20.

His teammate Ousmane Dembele, meanwhile, spent just one season (2016/17) at Dortmund but made a huge impact, winning the DFB-Pokal and convincing Barcelona to shell out €105 million ($113. 17 million) plus €40 million ($43. 11 million). ). ) as complements (and one wonders why Catalans have monetary problems. . . ).

Anyway, a great little subplot for you.

There are only 10 minutes left until the start of the match!I have a feeling PSG will do it. . .

Luis Enrique’s Champions League pedigree

Of course, Luis Enrique knows what it feels like to pick up old ears. He is to blame for Barcelona’s last Champions League victory, which dates back to 2015. The MSN (Messi, Suarez, Neymar) had little to do with that.

It’s hard for me to match Gonçalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembélé and Kylian Mbappé in an acronym (ROK is the one I’ve found).

Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League

Are there any arguments for Borussia Dortmund to be one of the most productive groups of the 2010s that didn’t win the Champions League? That was my hunch, some studies tell me that the Germans were not as successful as I remembered.

Jürgen Klopp’s BVB were beaten in the final by Bayern Munich in 2013 and rarely reached the quarter-finals, a level they have since equalled this decade.

Of course, they won the festival on their fifth appearance (UCL/European Cup) in 1996/97, beating favourites Juventus in the final in Munich.

PSG’s voodoo in the Champions League

There has been a lot of talk about PSG having something of an elimination spell in the Champions League.

Losing 4-0 in the first leg against Barcelona in the round of 16 in 2017, they lost 6-1 at the Camp Nou. Two years later, they convincingly beat Manchester United 2–0, only to lose 3–1 at home. at home and lose by away goals. In 2022, they led 2-0 and were at Real Madrid with 30 minutes to go, only to concede 3 times in a row.

And the year they managed to advance through the round of 16 to the final, no fans were able to witness it due to covid-19 (and they lost in the final to Bayern Munich).

This final and two semi-finals (1994/95 and 2020/21) are their Champions League achievements to date.

A blank sheet of paper in Paris and Dortmund is over, it’s that undeniable.

However, facing Kylian Mbappé is a little less straightforward. This man, Gregor Kobel, may have a wonderful evening.

“We have to earn our position at Wembley. All we want now is a draw in the second leg, but we also want to win. We have a small advantage and a smart opportunity. We have to do everything in combination, with a smart strategy. Plan, with a smart idea, Paris will be better than last week. We want to win this ticket to the final, we will face it together.

“The goal is to reach the final and to achieve that we have to be better than a great team like Dortmund. There’s room for improvement and we’ve been working on it. Two goals can be scored in three seconds, but we can still concede two goals in that time. “We’re going to win” is the only word I know in French: we’re going to win.

PSG – Dortmund in the 2023/24 round

MD1 Group Level: PSG 2-0 Dortmund

Matchday six stage: Dortmund 1-1 PSG

Did you have the feeling that PSG and Dortmund had already faced each other several times this season? You’re not wrong. Before last week’s first leg, they had already met two other times in Group F, with the French gaining ground.

Goals from Mbappé and Hakimi in the second half allowed PSG to start the first day on the right foot, although the situation would have been reversed on the last day.

Dortmund had already qualified for the round of 16 heading into matchday six, while the Parisians needed a point to score. Things got ominous when Karim Adeyemi gave BVB the lead, Warren Zaire-Emery’s quick equaliser did the job for Luis Enrique’s side (and it was hugely important after Milan’s win at Newcastle).

BVB achieved the unthinkable and dominated the Group of Death.

PSG, Newcastle and AC Milan reunited alongside Terzic in an organization that captivated football enthusiasts around the world and earned the deadly label on the spot.

Three wins, two draws and one defeat were enough to beat PSG in first place and a potentially catastrophic draw in the round of 16.

On matchday five of the organization, PSG drew with Newcastle, while Dortmund beat Milan 1-3, sealing the way and calming nerves after a shaky start that saw them defeated by the French team.

But for some reason here or there, PSG’s Champions League crusade may have ended months ago. Luis Enrique’s boys have just dropped out of Group F, although this year they are the “Group of Death” along with AC Milan, Newcastle United and . . . of Dortmund.

The Germans’ 3 wins and 11 points secured first place, with the French and Italians tied on 8 points from six matches. PSG qualified thanks to a better head-to-head record in matches against Milan, winning 3-0. in Paris before losing 2-1 at San Siro.

I understand why it took so long for PSG’s official account to “officially” publish the starting line-up, but now I know why. . .

Names on a chart just weren’t enough, were they?

If it was a contest, the game would be over by now.

The PSG boys look lively. However, they will have to move it to the checkout (maybe get rid of the dress shoes).

Dortmund beat Bayern, Atleti and PSG

After four straight wins in the Bundesliga in March, Dortmund’s domestic form has been asymmetrical of late, accepting seven of the last 15 issues on offer.

However, they have picked up big wins in recent weeks, picking up home wins in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid and PSG, as well as an away win over Bayern Munich in the league.

In case you missed it, the Champions League will have a new format next season, here it is all explained. Four more organisations will participate in the organisation phase, adding two of the most successful countries in European competitions in 2023/24, which have been confirmed: Italy and Germany.

That’s how it will work. Say goodbye to the Champions League as you know it (you knew it).

Borussia Dortmund UCL 2024/25 position confirmed

Borussia Dortmund have been a Champions League regular over the years and although they haven’t had a wonderful season domestically, they will qualify for next year’s festival after confirming Germany would secure a fifth position in the new UCL in 2024/25.

BVB are currently in fifth place in the Bundesliga with two games to go and cannot be held back by sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. Maybe they’ll still overtake RB Leipzig in fourth place, it doesn’t really matter.

The five most sensible from Germany are present, and Italy, England and Spain had to settle for four.

PSG’s momentum after a long unbeaten run

After a slow start under Luis Enrique, PSG went on a 27-match unbeaten run, ending with Barcelona at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the quarterfinals.

But their recent record has been excellent, with only 3 wins, two draws and two defeats in seven meetings in all competitions.

Once upon a time there was Ligue 1, one of the most unpredictable championships in Europe, perhaps even the most glamorous. Between 1992 and 2002, there were 8 other winners, while there were also another six consecutive champions between 2008 and 2013.

But until then, PSG had made a lot of money and began their dominance, which has led them to win 10 of the last 12 titles (they still managed to spoil some, which they shouldn’t have done).

Luis Enrique’s side secured top spot with three games remaining following Monaco’s defeat at Lyon at the end of April, despite winning La Liga as a minimum requirement.

However, they could earn a quadruple, which would be much more impressive. This would come, of course, with the Champions League, but also with the Trophée des Champions (a kind of Super Coupe de France) and the Coupe de France (you can translate that very much), the final they will play against Lyon on the 25th.

Have you ever wanted to watch a Champions League semi-final?Here’s a small taste of the Parisian atmosphere at the time, thanks to PSG’s social networks. It’s going to be hot at the Parc des Princes, I promise!

I didn’t mention Jadon Sancho in this last post, but he may have an important role to play in Paris as well!It didn’t work out for him (or anyone else) at Manchester United, however, he has once again shown what he’s capable of. since arriving on loan at Dortmund in January.

And maybe we can see him win what is a random Champions League record at the Parc des Princes?

No Lewy, no Haaland, no Bellingham: Borussia Dortmund’s effort

Without Robert Lewandowski, without Erling Haaland and without Jude Bellingham, I don’t think it’s too debatable to say that this Dortmund team doesn’t have the same star strength as the others of recent seasons.

The Germans know that a blank sheet of paper will see them qualify and they will rely on the impressive Gregor Kobel and the experienced Mats Hummels to help them do so. But with Mbappe and Dembele in the opposition ranks, they know they will most likely have to score. in Paris if they need to make progress.

Luckily for them, coach Edin Terzic has plenty of attacking roles at his disposal, whether in the starting eleven or on the bench, with winger Donyell Malen (14 goals) joining Füllkrug (15) in double figures this season. Julian Brandt (nine), Marco Reus (eight), Youssoufa Moukoko and Marcel Sabitzer (six each) also stepped in when needed.

It looks like UEFA has gone after WWE. PSG and Dortmund will be ambushed before they can enter the ring. . . Excuse me, the field? This may simply be a way to change things in the long run if we feel like the Champions League is getting a little outdated (which we would never do, obviously).

FRANCK FIFE/AFP

Kylian Mbappé’s men in the Champions League

I’m not taking on the threat by saying that Mbappe is PSG’s key man/player to watch, but his record at the festival means it’s hard to ignore. If you live on the moon, you know that the 25-year-old is leaving Paris this summer, probably to Real Madrid.

Mbappe has scored 48 goals in 72 Champions League games, 42 in 63 games for PSG. Only 3 players have scored 40 goals in the UCL faster than the French captain, who has done so in 59 games.

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (obviously) leads the list with 35 appearances, followed by PSV and Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy (45) and Karim Benzema (57) from Lyon and Real Madrid.

In case you were wondering, Lionel Messi needed 61 games and slow coach Cristiano Ronaldo, the competition’s all-time top scorer, needed 82.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a wonderful game, or a game of any kind, without us being able to take a look at the locker room of both teams on social media. PSG first, who seem to have proven once again that Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi are the best. Outbreaks.

Defender Ramy Bensebaïni is the only real absentee from the first team due to an ankle ligament injury. 17-year-old Belgian striker Julien Duranville is also injured, but he is still seen as more of a long-term player than a supplier.

Lucas Hernandez Suffers ACL Tear in 18 Months

Hernandez, a former Bayern Munich defender, has had a lot of problems lately, but it all went wrong. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the first attack of the 2022 World Cup against Australia, keeping him sidelined for the rest of last season.

Today he suffers the same injury to his other knee, which will force him to miss Euro 2024 and a Champions League final. The hell of wounds.

Luis Enrique’s losses were in defense.

Presnel Kimpembe has been out since February 2023 due to an Achilles tendon issue and remains sidelined. He was joined in the therapy room by Lucas Hernandez, who tore his ACL in the first leg at Dortmund, meaning we may not see him back for quite some time. time.

My esteemed colleague Will Gittins will take care of this first leg at the Signal Iduna Park/BVB Stadion Dortmund/Westfalenstadion (all bases covered). If my little summary isn’t enough for you, I hope this more detailed report is.
