PSG Mbappé suffers a sprained ankle, no update on his return

Paris St Germain striker Kylian Mbappé suffered a sprained ankle in Friday’s Final French Cup victory over Saint-Etienne and his injury will be reassessed in 3 days, Ligue 1 champions announced on Saturday.

A brutal take of Loic Perrin saw St Etienne’s defender grab Mbappé on his ankle and the 21-year-old collapsed into the pain field before being replaced. Perrin expeled the challenge when PSG won 1-0.

“Severe sprain of the right ankle in the outer compartment. It will be re-evaluated in 72 hours with clinical research and ankle images,” the club said of Mbappé’s injury in a statement.

Mbappé, who returned to the bank on crutches after the break, told French President Emmanuel Macron in the rite of the trophy that he heard a crackle when he tackled, but didn’t think his ankle had been damaged.

The PSG, ligue 1 champion, has specified whether Mbappé will take part in Friday’s French League Cup final against Olympique Lyonnais, with parisians chasing four titles this season.

They will also face Italian Atalanta in a qualifier in the Quarter-finals of the Champions League in Lisbon on 12 August.
