PSG sign Jadon Sancho amid Manchester United’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte

NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Manchester United’s chances of signing Manuel Ugarte have been dealt a major blow as Paris Saint-Germain are not interested in Jadon Sancho, ruling out a potential transfer deal.

Sancho is reportedly open to joining PSG, with the Ligue 1 giants providing offensive reinforcements after losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.

United are open, but under pressure, to sell the winger who has struggled since arriving at Old Trafford in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund in a £73m move, scoring just 18 goals in 83 appearances.

And his move to PSG could help sweeten the deal for defensive midfielder Ugarte, who has a more sensible move target and whose days in Paris seem numbered after being barred from first-team training.

For monetary reasons, the Parisians prefer to transfer the 23-year-old, but are expecting €60m (£51. 5m), a sum the Red Devils are willing to pay.

A trade deal may solve the problem, but that situation is now highly unlikely, with the Telegraph reporting that if Sancho is interested in PSG, he is not interested.

Coach Luis Enrique is more focused on signing a centre-forward and is satisfied with his wings such as Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola.

United will be hoping to find a solution before the transfer window closes, with Uruguayan star Ugarte keen to move.

This season will be vital for Sancho, whose United career appeared to last more than a year after a public dispute with Erik ten Hag led to him being excluded from first-team training.

He returned to Dortmund on loan in the second half of last season, but returned to Carrington in the summer, when the 25-year-old and Ten Hag settled their differences.

The manager has hinted that he could play a role at the club in 2024/25, including as an impromptu No. 9 following Rasmus Hojlund’s injury.

Sancho played his first game in red in more than a year in last Saturday’s Community Shield, coming on as a late substitute before missing his penalty in the shootout defeat to Manchester City.

He is expected to return on Friday evening when United kick off the new Premier League season against Fulham.
