Paris Saint-Germain will have to dispense with midfielders Marco Verratti and Leandro Paredes for the opening of the Champions League organization level at home against Manchester United on Tuesday, coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed, but Captain Marquinhos could return.
Verratti suffered a leg muscle injury in outer service with Italy and may be offside for up to 3 weeks, Sports L’Equipe reported.
Paredes injured a thigh in Friday’s 4-0 win at Nomes in Ligue 1.
In addition, Argentine striker Mauro Icardi is absent from a knee problem, while the defensive duo of Thilo Kehrer and Juan Bernat are also out.
However, speaking to Tuchel on Monday, he said Brazilian central defender Marquinhos and Germany’s Julian Draxler had returned to training.
“I hope they can play for us (on Tuesday),” said Tuchel, who also has Portuguese midfielder Danilo Pereira for the first time after arriving on loan from Porto.
He was unable to play Nimes after having to isolate himself by contact with fellow foreigner Cristiano Ronaldo, who tested positive for Covid-19.
Angel Di María is also exempt from national suspension, with last season’s Champions League finalists taking them out of the festival in the last 16 games of 2018/19.
They are in Group H alongside RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir.
