PSG vs Newcastle final result, result when Mbappé’s penalty saves Luis Enrique after a debatable handball decision

Kylian Mbappe converted a stoppage-time penalty to spare Paris Saint-Germain’s blushes as they drew 1-1 with Newcastle United in Group F of the Champions League at Parc des Princes.

For the majority of the match, Newcastle were ahead on the scoresheet, Alexander Isak converting from close range in the 24th minute. The Swedish striker was on hand to finish from just six yards out after PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma spilt a shot from Miguel Almiron after clever build-up from full back Tino Livramento.

Eddie Howe’s side frustrated their hosts for much of the festival as PSG squandered several clear-cut chances in front of a packed crowd that created a hostile atmosphere.

Then came the controversy when Ousmane Dembele put a ball into the box that first hit Livramento on the side before getting a one-handed touch from close range. The VAR asked referee Szymon Marciniak to take a look at the incident and, to the delight of the maximum fans, both inside and outside the home, pointed to the venue.

Mbappé intervened and made no mistakes to save a point for the Ligue 1 leaders, who now have the merit in Group F and remain in second place. Newcastle also still have a chance to advance on Matchday 6, but will be bitterly disappointed not to be able to do so. He picks up the 3 numbers with them on Tyneside.

Starting lineups:

PSG (4-3-3): Donnarumma (GK) – Hakimi, Skriniar, Danilo (Ramos 84′), Hernández – Ruiz, Ugarte (Vitinha 62′), Lee (Asensio 81′) – Dembélé, Kolo Muani (Barcola 62 ‘), Mbappé

Newcastle (4-3-3): Pope (GK) – Trippier, Lascelles, Schar, Livramento – Miley, Guimaraes, Joelinton – Almiron, Isak, Gordon

It’s safe to say that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and his players will feel sick when looking back at the decision that was made to give PSG a 97th-minute penalty.

After the ball clattered into Livramento’s side from a few yards away before then hitting his arm, referee Szymon Marciniak was advised to look at the incident by VAR. The Polish official then viewed the action in slow motion just a few times before awarding the penalty, much to the dismay of Newcastle supporters and other football fans watching.

Speaking to TNT Sports afterwards, Howe said: “To be honest, I’m still coming to terms with it. I feel flat. ” And he added: “I didn’t think it was a penalty at all. “

This is an understandable response, to say the least, as the UEFA handball regulations will once again be at the center of discussions in the coming days.

With a plethora of injuries to deal with, Howe showed plenty of faith to keep 17-year-old Lewis Miley in his starting XI and Livramento at left-back and not in his usual position.

But their past gamble paid off as the young English duo produced colossal performances to ensure the visitors still had a chance of qualifying for the Champions League last 16 on the final day, even despite the draw. of PSG. .

Miley — who missed school to play at the Parc des Princes — didn’t look out of place at any point as his energetic performance helped the visitors to claim a point on the road. Livramento also shone as his stunning run helped to set up Isak’s opener, and even though he conceded a late penalty, that can’t be held against the 21-year-old, who continues to make a name for himself following his summer move from Southampton.

FULL TIME: PSG 1-1 Newcastle United

A simply breathtaking match comes to an end as PSG and Newcastle share the spoils. The Magpies led midway through the first half from an Isak finish but Mbappe converted a last minute penalty in extremely controversial circumstances. Newcastle can still qualify on matchday six.

97th minute: MBAPPE CONVERTS!! The PSG captain made his mistake on the spot and at the French level. This is a real heartbreak for Newcastle.

96th minute: The referee goes to the screen to watch the incident and after a few glances, the penalty is awarded!Replays show the ball bouncing off Livramento’s chest and hitting his arm, but it’s never a penalty.

Mbappé intervenes.

95th minute: PSG would have probably registered 30 shot attempts here, but Newcastle hold on. There are only two minutes left to play as there is a massive penalty call for PSG.

91st minute: WHAT A MISS!! The ball is drifted to the back post but Barcola smashes his volley miles over the crossbar and that’s another huge let off for the away side.

90th minute: A minimum of 8 minutes of added time will be played here in Paris. Can Newcastle survive?

Minute 87: SO CLOSE!! Mbappe intimidated his defender before firing a shot straight at Pope. Then the ball falls to him again and he fires a hard shot that escapes by a few centimeters from the far corner. It’s extraordinarily close for the French striker. Almirón reserves the time to waste time afterwards.

85th minute: With little time to save the day, Luis Enrique sacrifices centre-back Danilo for striker Ramos. Tap now or for PSG.

82nd minute: Another great chance presents itself for PSG when Hernandez shines on a cross to the near post, but Dembele saves the ball from close range. Asensio replaced Lee for the hosts soon after.

80th minute: Hakimi flies in from distance and it will be another lost minute for Newcastle. It looks like Asensio will sign for PSG next.

79th minute: A reminder that as it stands in Group F, Dortmund will qualify for the knockout stages tonight, whilst Newcastle will jump above PSG and into second spot.

76th minute: Ruiz tries to feed Mbappe behind the Newcastle backline but Pope is quick off his line to collect. PSG are running out of time here.

73rd minute: I don’t know why Barcola wasn’t in PSG’s starting XI tonight because he’s causing chaos on the left wing. Your move results in another massive penalty from the house, but it is not reapplied. Donnarumma reserves for your calls.

71st minute: Adeyemi Dortmund take a 3-1 lead in Milan and if this result in France remains the same, the German team will be promoted from Group F.

69th minute: There is a massive PSG penalty when Gordon appears to have been beaten by Hakimi in the box. It hasn’t happened in the first place yet, but the VAR will check. . . It has not happened again. A sigh of relief from Eddie Howe on the bench.

Minute 67: WOW!! WHAT A SAVING!! The Pope saves Newcastle!!Mbappe got ahead of his man before locating Barcola, who was six yards from goal. He hit it for the first time, but the Newcastle striker took a great right-footed shot and deflected it off the far post. Save your career?

WOW. NICK DAD AGAIN!!

66th minute: Barcola has arguably done more in his first five minutes on the pitch than Kolo Muani managed in his 60 minute cameo. The youngster is hugging the left wing and causing Trippier some trouble as Mbappe has moved to play down the middle.

62nd minute: Here are the first tweaks for PSG, as Vitinha and Barcola update Ugarte and Kolo Muani.

At the San Siro, Dortmund regained the lead against Milan as Bynoe-Gittens found the back of the net.

60th minute: Skriniar also enters the referees’ book a minute later by bringing down Gordon, who was flying down the left flank. PSG are losing their composure a bit here now.

59th minute: Dembele is booked and he’ll miss PSG’s final match versus Dortmund as a result.

58th minute: GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR PSG!! Kolo Muani fed Demeble, who fired a shot at point-blank range, but Pope temporarily came out to deny it again. Mbappe then opted for the impressive in the follow-up, but missed an aerial shot and Newcastle cleared the danger.

55th minute: There is no chance to mention in this second half, as Newcastle remains defiant in defense. The visitors don’t give PSG anything here with their structured and disciplined defensive performance.

52nd minute: PSG’s start was not quick in these forty-five minutes and Mbappé remains silent for the moment. Trippier does well to look at it again, as he did at St James’ Park in early October.

47th minute: Isak has to shoot there! Gordon plays through the striker but instead of striking at goal, he lets Danilo get back alongside him and thwarts his chance.

START: Newcastle get us back on track in the second half. It’s going to be difficult for the opposing team to get that advantage, especially with limited roles on the bench.

HALF-TIME: PSG 0-1 Newcastle United

Schar produced a massive block from close range and Newcastle almost took the lead at half-time. Although the French side temporarily got out of the traps at the Parc des Princes tonight, Isak scored from close range when Donnarumma deflected Almiron’s shot straight away. the Swedish striker.

Expect a lot more drama in the second half as PSG look to get back into the game.

45th minute: Ruiz takes a long-range shot but Pope recovers the shot on goal. There will be 3 minutes of added time in the first half.

43rd minute: Eddie Howe will be desperate to see his team go into half-time with merit here and in fact they are looking at the moment. Isak almost played through Gordon on purpose, but Skriniar was right to intercept.

40th minute: Dortmund leads the organization as a whole, ahead of Newcastle, followed by PSG and Milan. If those two effects remain the same, either team can still qualify on the final day.

36th minute: Ugarte is the second player into the referee’s book tonight as he cynically brings down Almiron who was looking to break down the right.

Milan drew against Dortmund at San Siro in the Group F match.

33rd minute: Pope denies that Dembele, who shot just inside the box, was not the best of his career and still has to be dealt with. PSG are starting to react here.

31st minute: This is how Isak gave the Magpies a notable lead over PSG.

*Highlights are available to UK viewers.

28th minute: Ugarte shoots for PSG, who look shaken after this first game by Newcastle that lately puts the English team in second place in the group. Enrique doesn’t seem like a satisfied guy on the margins.

Minute 25: GOOOOOOOOOALLLLL!! NEWCASTLE TAKES TO PARIS!! Isak made amends for his big mistake early in the game. Donnarumma was unable to deal with Almirón’s shot and poured it directly over Newcastle’s star striker who made no mistakes from close range.

Livramento faced five defenders to find the winning goal in the build-up, which did not go unnoticed!

ISAAAAKKKKKKK!! pic. twitter. com/U1dDwJKHTH

24th minute: PSG are struggling to create many chances at once. Newcastle have adapted to their game plan and are making it incredibly difficult for the home side.

Joelinton enters the book for pushing back Hernandez, who is looking to break through in midfield.

20th minute: What a game Miley is already playing for Newcastle. Tonight is his first start in the Champions League and the 17-year-old doesn’t seem to be out of position so far.

17th minute: Newcastle definitely grew in this match after struggling in the early exchanges. They have maintained ownership in the last few minutes and are looking for speed in midfield.

Minute 12: WHAT A FAILURE!! Almirón surely stole the player in front of him on a platter for Isak, but the Swedish striker fired his shot just over the crossbar. It’s a huge moment ahead for Newcastle. What a party we have in our hands here!

Minute 10: GREAT BACKING!! What a great save from Pope for Newcastle. Hakimi feeds Mbappe in the box and the French star looks to go home with a sublime effort, but the outside goalkeeper temporarily closes his legs to deny him.

In the match, Dortmund led Reus from the penalty spot after Giroud narrowly missed one at the end.

8th minute: In the other match, Milan have already missed a penalty as Giroud sees his effort saved. That could have huge repercussions in Group F!

Minute 5: CLOSING! Dembele hit the post for Lee, but the midfielder smashed his volley into the goal. The ball then bounced inside the box and fell to Ruiz, but he smashed it home from close range. It’s a wonderful opportunity for PSG.

Minute 3: PSG get off to a fast start as Lascelles is forced to be temporarily transparent to the visitors. So far, the hosts have all the ownership.

START: We’re up and running here when Lee starts this game. It’s a game for either team, but who can break through first?

15 minutes before KO: It’s a very cold evening in Paris, but this warms up the enthusiasts present. The action is coming very soon.

30 mins to KO: Kieran Trippier will have his work cut out tonight as he faces Kylian Mbappe down the left flank. The French star has scored twice across four Champions League matches this campaign, with both of those goals coming on home soil and he’ll fancy adding to that total in this clash.

With a goal to his name, he would move to 43 goals in the competition, the same goals as his former teammate Neymar but in 15 fewer games!

55 minutes before the knockout: As for Newcastle, they come here with a lot of injuries to deal with, but remain unchanged from their win over Chelsea at the weekend. It’s the culmination of a wonderful week, especially for youngster Lewis Miley, who continues his adventure in the starting XI and will face some of those in business tonight at the Parc des Princes.

Eddie Howe expects this team to be able to do the job given that there is very little delight on the visitors’ bench tonight.

HOWAY NEWCASTLE! ?#PSGNEW // #NUFC pic.twitter.com/qIOL3FQSms

1 hour to KO: The line ups are in and there’s a couple of changes for PSG as Danilo comes in at centre back, with Hernandez moving to left back at the expense of Mukiele. Vitinha and Ramos also drop out for Lee Kang-in and Kolo Muani respectively, with Mbappe captaining the home side.

1 hour and 30 minutes before KO: With so much at stake in UCL Group F, here are all the permutations you want to know ahead of tonight’s showdown in Paris:

Borussia Dortmund are a wonderful organisational leader, but they can secure a place in the round of 16 if they beat AC Milan at San Siro in their next match. If that happens and Paris Saint-Germain beat Newcastle United at home, Dortmund and the French champions will qualify together.

Eddie Howe’s side are running out of time to get back into the Champions League. They want a result in Paris and then they will have to regroup to beat Milan on the final day, but if they lose at the Parc des Princes they will be eliminated. It’s as undeniable as that. Milan will probably want a win over Dortmund to keep their hopes alive.

2 hours before KO: Welcome to The Sporting News’ live politics of Newcastle United’s Champions League against reigning French champions PSG. Eddie Howe’s side embarrassed Kylian Mbappe and company in a 4-1 win at St James’ Park in early October, but with injuries piling up, this away outing may become an omnipotent check for the Magpies.

We’re going to do that. ?

PSG could be left with an unchanged squad after their impressive 5-2 win at the weekend in Ligue 1 against rivals Monaco. Warren Zaire-Emery and Marquinhos are absent for the hosts, but talisman Kylian Mbappe, who already has 16 goals in total. This season’s competitions – is available.

Luis Enrique has already tweaked his squad between Ligue 1 and Champions League matches, but he seems determined in his line-up, with Ousmane Dembele scoring his first goal for the club against Monaco in an action that will almost keep him in the team. .

Newcastle’s injury situation means Howe could also be forced to stick with the same team that sealed a morale-boosting 4-1 Premier League win over Chelsea. With Sean Longstaff struggling to recover in time, 17-year-old Lewis Miley could retain his starting spot in midfield, alongside Brazilian pair Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

Howe’s options are heavily restricted by injuries ahead of this game but their performance against Chelsea will have given him confidence over his starting team. Lewis Hall is back in contention after being ineligible to face parent club Chelsea, but he is also struggling with a minor knock.
