PSV Eindhoven ‘contact Manchester United over Facundo Pellistri loan’

When United signed Pellistri from Penarol in 2020, there was a lot of communication about the deal for the striker who is expected to become a first-team player at Old Trafford in due course.

However, other managers, the Uruguayan foreigner, have rarely had the chance to impress, as much of his time at United was spent on loan at Alaves.

The decision was made this summer to keep the 22-year-old at the Theatre Of Dreams, and manager Erik ten Hag was hoping to give Pellistri more opportunities.

However, this materialised, with only 3 starts and 11 substitute starts in all competitions, and only 165 minutes in the Premier League.

With United knocked out of European competition, measures are being taken on the number of players in the senior categories, in part to lose room in the wage bill and gain at least one new face.

Pellistri falls into the category of those who are available for a move if the right opportunity arises, and United and the player are said to have a resolution to make in the next phase of his career.

According to Fabrizio Romano, PSV have reached out to United to see if they can effectively negotiate a loan deal for the playmaker.

The Dutch giants are enjoying one of the most historic campaigns of late, with Peter Bosz’s side yet to drop a point in 16 Eredivisie games.

Furthermore, PSV have also progressed through to the last 16 of the Champions League and have ambitions to win another KNVB Beker trophy, leading to an interest being taken in Pellistri.

However, Romano claims that they are facing the Los Angeles Galaxy festival, which would like to take over Pellistri’s festival permanently.

United are reportedly keen to pursue their options in the coming days and it is unclear whether Pellistri would prefer to remain in Europe or take on a new challenge in MLS.

With only 18 months remaining on his United contract, the Premier League side have the option to extend those terms for a further 12 months at the end of 2024 if they wish.
